Our RoleEnsure Graymont maintains our regulatory and social license to operate by partnering with relevant internal and external stakeholders and providing advice, guidance and support to operational sites and project teams to help ensure compliance with Company and regulatory requirements and achieve world class HSE and government relations outcomes.
Key focus areas the role will include:Senior HSE Specialist ResponsibilitiesFor sites and projects within a Region: Foster a mature safety culture across SEA where people are looking out for their own and their co-workers' health and safety.Support and, where appropriate, lead key government relations, public affairs and sustainability initiatives throughout the SEA geography, ensuring alignment with Graymont's strategy and that Graymont's interests are promoted and protected.Partner with Operations/Functions to drive continuous improvement in HSE, ensure compliance with Graymont HSE Standards and all relevant HSE regulatory requirements, and effective implementation of Graymont HSEMS.Support the development and implementation of plans to support SEA sites address new regulatory and compliance matters.Partner with Operations and Functional/Project leads to drive a sustained reduction in safety and environmental incidents, helping ensure effective risk management, appropriate training, competency verification, and implementation of best practice.Provide expert advice and support, identify internal and external trends, recommend improvements and inform decision-making and strategy development.Where required, lead environmental permitting projects in collaboration with Graymont regional and functional leaders by liaising with regulatory authorities, coordinating external resources, and supporting engagement with relevant stakeholders.Guide and support sites in proactive and value-adding community and regulator engagement that maintains and strengthens Graymont's social licence to operate.Assist with preparing reporting materials as required including for regulators, present progress on key projects at regularly scheduled meetings, and actively participate in key forums including APAC HSE team meetings.Guide and support safety and environmental incident investigations, helping to identify and implement corrective and preventative measures, including organisational factors.Influence, mentor, coach and develop regional peers on HSE and corporate affairs matters to help ensure compliance with Company and regulatory requirements.Serve as first point of contact and/or escalation for relevant operational HSE issues that require escalation beyond site.Provide specialist HSE services and technical advice to Operations, other functions and to designated projects.Build strong relationships with Operations/Functional/Project team members to influence delivery of HSE priorities and help achieve world class outcomes.All APAC SEA sites meet Graymont Safety and Environment Standards and the relevant HSE regulatory requirements and are continuously improving.HSE, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability outcomes are aligned to the Graymont strategy and are delivered through cross-functional collaboration and partnership with key regional and functional leaders across the business.Positive, proactive and value-adding relationships with key external stakeholders including government, regulators and local community.Demonstrated improvements in safety culture maturity across APAC SEA sites.APAC SEA sites and projects are provided with appropriate HSE and sustainability guidance and support.All relevant permits are identified and obtained across APAC SEA.Compliance with Company and regulatory HSE requirements and Graymont HSEMS.
Ideally, the successful candidate will have the following attributes and qualifications:Essential A formal tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, environmental science/engineering or related discipline.
Green Book holder (past or current).Experience engaging with senior government stakeholders, especially in Malaysia.Solid and proven health, safety and environmental leadership that may have been gained in the resource, manufacturing or heavy industry sector or equivalent transferrable experience and skills from another industry, including a proven track record developing and promoting a safe work culture.Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and influencing skills.Current driver's licence.
Desirable Strong negotiation, influencing and team building skills.Sound understanding of current health, safety and environmental legislation, trends, emerging issues and Company requirements.Good presentation skills.Well-developed analytical & technical skills for data interpretation, review & reporting.Good working knowledge of MS Office applications and experience effectively utilising safety software.
First aid certificate.
Nationally recognised qualification in training and assessment.Project management skills including budgeting and cost control.
