OVERALL SCOPE OF JOB DESCRIPTION The Marine Biologist designs and executes educational activities for the enhancement of the guest's experience at The Datai. The incumbent is passionate about marine ecosystems and possess the creativity to convey knowledge from scientific literature and practices in an informal setting to a crowd of varying demographics. The Marine Biologist is an informal educator that carrying out eco- and nature-based tourism in the form of interpretive walks and hands-on activities with messages of conservation.The Marine Biologist supports, leads and assists in sustainability and conservation projects and designs guest activities to support guest participation.The Marine Biologist practices and promotes the overall philosophy and services of The Datai in order to reinforce the reputation and profile of The Datai whilst providing guest service excellence. The Marine Biologist supports the Nature Centre Manager in maintaining marketing objectives, operating criteria, programming, staff relations, and miscellaneous administrative work.REQUIRED SKILLS Knowledge and Skills:Education:Bachelor's (of Science or Arts) Degree in Marine Biology, Marine Science, Oceanography Science, Environmental Science, or any related field.Experience:Two years of laboratory and field experience in marine costal ecosystems and education and outreach. Prior involvement in marine biodiversity conservation projects. Experience in varying aquatic life support systems, specifically for aqua scaping, freshwater aquatic plants and corals, is a plus.Skills and Abilities:Computer and applicable software literate.Exceptional interpersonal relations.Must be approachable to children.A strong natural leadership ability.Comfortable with communicating and training fellow colleagues, interns, and local community partners.A focus on providing customer service excellence in line with The Datai philosophy.Methods and techniques for marine coastal ecology surveys and resource based recreation.Understanding and execution of natural areas management and marine conservation projects, especially dealing with fish aggregating devices and coral replanting.A solid knowledge of environmental awareness, education and outreach.Must be passionate about the conservation of natural systems, especially marine biodiversity.Budgeting and cost control needed for leading conservation project(s).At least Advanced Open Water Diver SCUBA certification from a recognised body is required.
