This position performs professional nursing duties as assigned in a short-term behavioral health care unit. This Registered Nurse (RN) must possess strong knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of working with individuals with psychiatric and mental health or medical concerns.
Responsibilities include:
Nursing triage and assessment upon admission
Medication administration and monitoring
Education regarding diagnosis
Providing RN delegation and training to support staff within the center
Assessing and completing nursing care plans
Communicating findings with the treatment team
This RN must have the ability to communicate effectively with diverse cultures and socio-economic populations. Tasks and documentation of services are provided in accordance with accepted legal and ethical nursing standards.
This RN will work a 12-hour day shift with rotating weekends and the ability to create your own block schedule.
The RN will be directed/supervised by the Director of Nursing for clinical matters such as, but not limited to medications, pharmacy, injections, genetic testing, phlebotomy/laboratory matters, and clinical assessments.
The RN will be directed/supervised by the Center Director for administrative matters such as, but not limited to requesting time off, scheduling, and office flow. BTCS RNs cross-train to support other programs as needed, including programs such as Adult Crisis Respite, Residential Withdrawal Management, Youth Therapeutic Respite Program, and State Hospital Step Down Program.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduated from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas with at least 2 years of recent nursing experience in behavioral health and/or substance use nursing. Experience can be in any inpatient, outpatient, or residential treatment type setting.
Ability to work collaboratively and be part of a multidisciplinary professional team.
Computer literate with working knowledge of Windows/MS Office applications.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must have a valid Texas Driver's License and maintain approved driver's status throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
ANCC Psychiatric/Mental Health Certification or CARN certification
Experience working with individuals with behavioral health, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, ER or primary care
Bilingual in Spanish
