Ambulance Driver operates an emergency vehicle to transport patients to medical facilities, assist paramedics, and ensure that emergency response times are minimized. This role requires quick decision-making, knowledge of the area, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
Driving & Transportation:Operate the ambulance safely in all traffic conditions, following laws and emergency protocols.
Ensure the vehicle is always in good working order, clean, and stocked with necessary medical supplies.
Transport patients to hospitals or healthcare facilities swiftly while adhering to safety and traffic regulations.Assist emergency medical technicians (EMTs) or paramedics with the loading and unloading of patients.
Provide support to the medical team by helping in setting up and preparing equipment for patient care.
Ensure the patient's safety and comfort during transport.
Vehicle Maintenance:Perform routine checks and maintenance of the ambulance, including fluid levels, tire pressure, and ensuring medical equipment is operational.
Ensure the vehicle is always fully stocked with necessary medical supplies and ensure supplies are rotated and replenished as needed.
Report any mechanical issues to the supervisor for repairs or further inspection.
Ensure the cleanliness of vehicle.Emergency Response:Respond to emergency calls and transport patients to medical facilities without delay.
Act as a liaison between dispatch and the medical team to ensure clear communication regarding the patient's condition, route, and arrival times.Documentation & Reporting:Record patient transport details, including the origin and destination, time of transport, and relevant patient information.
Maintain logs of vehicle mileage, maintenance, and repairs.
Report accidents or any incidents that occur during transport.Qualifications:
Education & Experience:High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience as an ambulance driver or in a related field preferred.
Experience with emergency vehicles and the ability to drive in high-pressure situations.Licenses & Certifications:Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Depending on location, an additional certification for driving emergency vehicles may be required (e.g. PSV / GDL LICENSE).
CPR and first aid certification may be required.Skills & Abilities:Strong knowledge of local roads, routes, and traffic patterns.
Ability to handle high-stress situations calmly and efficiently.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (including medical equipment and patients if needed).
Ability to sit for extended periods and remain alert.
Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting patients and navigating through unpredictable situations.
