Responsible for overseeing and managing the Medical Laboratory Services in the most effective and efficient manner to yield excellent operational results, customer service delivery, and stakeholders' return. Also responsible for new business development and implementation of services related to these departments in line with SunMed Ipoh's business plan and strategic direction, as well as in conformance to regulatory requirements.
Core Duties
Work with the Laboratory management team to keep expenditure within budgetary limits and be proactive in cost-saving measures of all sections.
Take lead in decision-making processes for the purchase of new equipment in the laboratory, as part of the procurement.
Keep abreast of new developments in technology, clinical guidelines, and legislation, and ensure the Laboratory management is aware of purchases or services required to meet accreditation and statutory requirements.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of test results to clinicians. Manage analytical problems that arise in the laboratory regarding equipment methodology and specimen collection techniques that could negatively impact patient safety.
Resolve any problems affecting the operation of the section that arise with personnel. Resolve problems that occur with physicians, nurses, patients, and clinic staff.
Supervise and oversee the technical operation of the staff to ensure accurate and timely testing of specimens.
Coordinate the roster preparation to ensure smooth operations at all times.
Address customer complaints promptly.
Attend and coordinate staff mandatory programs organized by the hospital and keep the laboratory knowledge and skills up to date.
Ensure work procedures and technical specifications required by the hospital are executed according to SOP.
Qualification & Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree or Bachelor of Biomedical Science Degree or an equivalent in a relevant field, recognized by the Government of Malaysia.
Master's/ PhD Degree in Science or Business Administration will be an added advantage.
Minimum 10 years of working experience as a practicing medical laboratory scientist with up to 5 years at an increasingly responsible management level position in laboratory operations in a hospital.
Possess sufficient technical and clinical knowledge to release results. Ability to interpret and validate results.
Familiar with quality control and quality assurance procedures.
Working knowledge of healthcare and related acts, regulations, and accreditation standards i.e., MS ISO 15189, MSQH, JCI, and ACHS.
Ability to produce written reports, policies, and protocols.
Ability to produce and interpret statistical data.
Possess sufficient technical know-how to plan and commission new and expanded laboratory services.#J-18808-Ljbffr
