Duties & Responsibilities
Support the pupil
Work with and be responsible for a child or group of children supporting literacy, numeracy and understanding in other subjects.
Support children's reading, both individuals and groups.
Encourage pupils to be independent.
Be fair and consistent with all children without favouritism to any child.
Avoid physically restraining children, unless they are in a situation where to not restrain them may endanger the life or well-being of themselves or another child.
Avoid being overly affectionate to children.
Try to discourage children if they become overly affectionate or dependant.
Discuss a pupil with a parent only after talking to teacher.
Support the teacher
Make observation of children.
Assisting in assessment and monitoring children progress.
Prepare resources.
Be responsible for resources.
Assess the responses of target teaching group.
Reporting to teacher of student's unnecessary behaviour or problems.
Acting as a role model in delivery process.
Using non-contact times proactively: prepare the room, change reading books or marking.
Aware of duties and roles at the start of the day.
Make sure to clarify the duties before children arrive in the room.
Be flexible and work with the team if cover required.
Support the curriculum
Develop activities to suit the needs of the children.
Contribute to planning.
Plan and teach World Cultures (with teacher present in the room to support).
Support the school
Play a full part in the operation of School, and are encouraged to attend school events.
