The Role:The Associate Editor/Editor, Steel & Scrap will join the close-knit steel and steel raw materials team in Asia and participate in the daily price assessment process. The job involves gathering pricing information and market intelligence, and conducting price assessments based on established methodology. The person will also write market commentaries, news and in-depth analysis stories. You will also be in a thought leadership position, helping Platts further cement its leading position through high-quality work. Market engagement is a critical part of the role. Based in Penang, the associate editor/editor will engage with key market participants and nurture relationships with key stakeholders in the market.

Responsibilities:
Assess daily market prices
Gather commodity price information, produce price assessments and write commentaries
Assess the value of benchmark prices fully in line with Platts' rigorous and published methodologies
Regularly engage market participants, helping showcase Platts expertise, and helping to explain our methodology
Analyze and explain fundamentals and market developments affecting prices
Develop, expand and maintain contacts relevant to the market area of coverage
Facilitate close working relationships with key stakeholders
Ability to effectively manage and develop price reporting coverage in the region
Qualifications:
Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
Desire to take ownership of a market in informational and relationship terms
Strong command of written and spoken English
Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese preferred due to China market coverage
Ability and willingness to engage with market participants on a daily basis
Ability to write reports from information gathered on a daily basis
Ability to work in a team setting
Critical thinking abilities, strong sense of initiative and attention to detail
Conscientious user of Excel
Experience in market reporting and analysis, and in metals or other commodity markets would be advantageous, but not necessary
