ScopeThe officer shall be a member of the staff of the Kulliyyah/Centre/Department to which he is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and research duties and other obligations as required of an academic staff member of the IIUM.The officer is expected to undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part of his duties as a member of the academic staff of IIUM.The officer shall attend meetings of IIUM Authorities, Boards, and Committees to which he may be appointed as a member.The officer is also expected to participate in the general life of the IIUM community and advise students regarding their character, behavior, and moral conduct.3. Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and LearningDeliver high-quality teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Supervise postgraduate students (Master's and PhD candidates) and guide their research projects.Develop new curricula or revise existing ones to ensure they meet current academic standards and industry needs.Engage in innovative teaching methods, including blended learning and online education.Achieve a set teaching load per academic year, based on institutional guidelines.Participate in student mentorship and academic advising.Research and InnovationProduce quality research output, such as publishing papers, books, copyrights, and others.Secure research grants from relevant funding bodies.Collaborate with other academics, institutions, and industries on research projects.Present research findings at national and international conferences.Contribute to the institution's research visibility by engaging in impactful projects.Supervise research assistants and other staff members involved in research.Academic Leadership and Administrative RolesTake on leadership roles within the department and Kulliyyah.Mentor junior faculty members and contribute to their professional development.Participate in faculty or institutional governance, such as committees, working groups, or task forces.Collaborate with colleagues as an effective team player to achieve department and faculty goals.Contribute to institutional and academic decision-making processes.Community Service and Industry EngagementEngage in consultancy services, knowledge transfer programs, or collaborative projects with the industry.Contribute to public engagement by offering expertise to the wider community.Organize or participate in workshops, seminars, or training programs for industry or community stakeholders.Develop partnerships with external organizations, NGOs, or government bodies to advance the institution's mission.Professional DevelopmentEngage in continuous professional development, including attending courses, workshops, and conferences.Fulfill requirements for promotion and advancement in rank.Be active in professional bodies or associations relevant to one's academic discipline.Student Development and SupervisionContribute to the development of students' academic and professional skills.Provide academic support for students to ensure their academic success.Participate in student activities and university events aimed at enhancing the student experience.InternationalizationPromote international collaborations in teaching and research.Engage in international academic exchanges or partnerships with foreign institutions.Contribute to efforts in attracting international students and faculty to the institution.4. Minimum QualificationsCandidates must possess a PhD in Tourism or any relevant field.Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Tourism, Tourism Management, Travel and Tour, or a closely related field.High competency in the English Language.Experience working in the tourism relevant industry with a minimum of two (2) years.Extensive teaching experience at the tertiary level, preferably in tourism, hospitality, or related disciplines.Strong record of publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals, particularly in the fields of tourism, hospitality, or sustainable tourism.Proven track record of academic achievements and research in areas relevant to tourism studies.Experience in collaborating with tourism industry stakeholders.5. Language QualificationsAll candidates must have obtained:Credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English Language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognized by the Government (for Malaysian citizens).Achieved English language qualification (at least) CEFR C1 / IELTS Band 6 / MUET Band 4.
