Purpose of Role
EAL Teacher are expected to ensure high quality educational support for all EAL students to improve English Language acquisition. The post-holder is expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate professional manner at all times to support and foster the aims of the School and SLT. Successful applicants will need to use initiative to produce resources that support students in mainstream classes, enabling them to access the lessons that are planned by the teachers.
Key Responsibilities Specific Support for EAL Students Plan and deliver small group support lessons for both primary and secondary EAL students.Provide in-class language support to targeted EAL students in their mainstream lessons.Set high expectations for pupils in relation to progress and achievement.Enable, encourage, and motivate EAL students to become independent and confident users of English.Ensure effective development of pupils' individual and collaborative study skills necessary for them to become increasingly independent in their work and to complete tasks independently when out of school.Establish a partnership with parents and carers to involve them in their child's learning of the subject, as well as providing information about curriculum, attainment, progress and targets.Work with Head of EAL to monitor students' attainment and progress.Skills, Qualifications and Experience Hold at least a bachelor's degree in a field related to EAL.Have a recognized teaching qualification (e.g. PGDT, PGCEi or similar);Have experience and excellent knowledge of teaching students across Key Stage 3 and 4;Have significant experience working with students for whom English is not their first language, including those with very little English at all;Good in both Mandarin and English as needed to support China and Taiwan studentsHave a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience;Be willing to participate in educational visits;Provide support to teaching staff to ensure they can adequately meet the needs of EAL learners;Use a wide range of strategies to assess and support language acquisition;Support parents of EAL learners to ensure a strong home-school partnership for learningBe asked to run one after school activity each term;Have a positive and solution finding approach to their working life;Appreciate the joys and challenges of working in an international school environment;Candidates with experience of teaching in an international secondary school are especially welcome.Desirable Personal QualitiesThe ability to develop strong relationships with their students;A patient, caring and kind personality;A dedication to teaching;Able to engage all students with their learning;A strong communicator;A good listener;A team player;Be adaptable to change;
