International SOS Medical Services operate in countries where international standards of medical care are not available or where cultural or language barriers make it difficult to receive appropriate health care.
The Medical Service (MS) arm provides site specific medical services to global clients as determined by individual client contracts.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE IN MEDICAL SERVICE
International SOS is committed to sound & effective Clinical Governance throughout its Medical Services operations globally.
This involves the partnership between Clinicians & Management to ensure a sustainable framework and appropriate resources to deliver quality services and ensure patient safety as a part of everyday operations and practices.
Effective and consistent implementation of International SOS Policies, Standards, Procedures and Processes are important requirements of Clinical Governance that ensure client satisfaction, patient safety and effective risk management as well as continuous quality improvement (CQI) of clinical practice.
Compliance with these requirements is monitored as part of the International SOS Integrated Management System that includes Clinical Governance Committees and meetings, internal and external audits, Site and Medical Service Centre reporting, clinical incident management and patient outcome monitoring, emergency drills, competency assessment etc.
Each medical officer in Medical Services is responsible for the Clinical Governance of their own practice as well as the teams they manage and supervise.

Maintain professional registration and qualifications in line with the requirements of the role.
Ensure the Clinical Governance program for the Medsite is fully implemented and compliance with all Medsite procedures is maintained.
This includes completion of:
Clinical Governance Audits
Medical Equipment Checklists
Biomedical Equipment Maintenance is current
Audit Plan of Action is developed
Emergency drills are scheduled and occur.
Pharmacy and Cold Chain Checklists
Monthly Inventory and Stock Reports.
Combined Checklists
Site Monthly Reporting
Provide clinical care and services within own scope of practice ensuring complete and comprehensive records are maintained that ensure continuity of care and case management as well as provide an auditable record of care that is compliant with the CPG's and Escalation Protocols.
Actively participate in review of clinical outcomes, case studies, CG performance for the site through attendance (remotely) at meetings and other feedback forums.
Ensure all required cases and potential issues are escalated in accordance with the Escalation procedure for Medical Services, Escalation protocols for Drs, Nurses and Medics and Incident Reporting Procedure.
Overall Purpose Of The Job
To assume overall responsibility for the medical affairs during the course of medical assistance services to the clients and members PKA.SOS.
The incumbent is responsible for providing medical portion of case direction to the Assistance and Response Center team and to ensure adequate medical information is integrated with logistical and direction of the operations manager to provide the highest quality of service to internal and external clients.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Medical Assistance Services
Accept medical responsibility for all Assistance centre calls and activities.
Assess all medically related calls received by PKA.SOS Assistance and Response Centre.
Provide prompt professional medical advice/recommendations to all PKA.SOS members and clients and non- PKA.SOS clients who call the Assistance centre.
Organize and supervise appropriate professional medical assistance for PKA.SOS clients.
This includes obtaining medical reports, organizing referrals, monitoring the patient's conditions, recommending appropriate means of medevac, and monitoring the progress of a medical transport.
Recommend the appropriate method of transportation, necessary medical Support skills, medical equipment and medical support necessary for air/ground medical evacuation/repatriation.
Visit PKA.SOS patients / clients in hospitals when required.
Assist in the maintenance and upgrade of the standards and checklists of the PKA.SOS equipment available in Malaysia.
Assist in the maintenance, upgrade and control the emergency mobile medical equipment available in Malaysia.
Participate in the PKA.SOS Corporate effort to define, prepare, write and formalize training manuals, training and orientation, continuous education programmes for Co-ordinator Doctors, Operation Managers and medical accompany personnel.
Act as a medical accompany when required for appropriate medical cases.
Determine most appropriate Medical accompany personnel for the specific case.
Assist in the management of our local Aircraft Charter providers and their service and safety standards.
Promotion of Company Services
To participate, under the direction of the General Manager and in consultation with the Marketing Manager, in appropriate social and professional activities in Malaysia which can make PKA.SOS services better known and appreciated.
To assist in explaining company's medical services (where possible) to prospective and existing clients upon request from the Marketing Department.
Global Medical Services
Conduct site surveys, medical audits and write report as per PKA.SOS' specifications upon request from the Medical Director.
Assist in the review and implementation of all Emergency Procedures (EP) for PKA.SOS' GMS sites in Malaysia.
Clinical Services
Additional Responsibilities
Participate in the development and maintenance of a safe and healthy workplace.
Complete all mandatory OH&S training as required.
Comply with any reasonable instructions, policies, procedures or safe work practices given by PKA.SOS in adhering to safe work procedures.
Co-operate with management in its fulfilment of its legislative obligations.
Take reasonable care to ensure their own health and safety and the safety of others.
To report any injury, hazard or illness as soon as possible to their supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Emergency Physicians shall be registered as practicing physicians with Malaysian Medical Council.
Shall hold a Recognized Master's degree in emergency medicine with NSR number.
Shall hold a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) or equivalent practicing license as a Medical Doctor.
Shall have 2 years of experience as Emergency Physician.
Shall have valid certification in Trauma Life Support (Advanced level) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Shall have received training in Mass Casualty Management as per internationally acceptable best practice.
