The Steam Engineer is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of steam boilers and related systems. This role involves supervising the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam generation equipment to ensure optimal performance and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Job Responsibilities
Fully responsible to maintain and operate fire tube boilers while adhering to safety programs, policies, legal compliance, and regulations.
Monitor boiler controls, fuel consumption, steam pressure, temperature, cost reduction, energy saving, and water levels to ensure stable operations and process improvement activities.
Develop and follow SOPs and Work Instructions.
Conduct Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) for boiler systems.
Operate and monitor high-pressure steam boilers and related systems.
Operate and monitor water systems (Water Pretreatment system, ROEDI, and WFI system).
Ensure boilers are running efficiently to meet steam pressure requirements while adhering to safety regulations and operating limits.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers, steam piping, water systems, and auxiliary equipment to minimize downtime.
Source and perform maintenance planning to avoid production interruptions due to resource shortages.
Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in steam generation and water systems, ensuring timely resolution to avoid plant interruptions.
Coordinate and supervise major overhauls, repairs, and routine servicing of the boilers and steam systems (up to POU).
Ensure legal compliance on steam facilities and activities in line with DOSH and audit requirements.
Maintain detailed logs and reports on boiler performance, maintenance schedules, safety checks, and regulatory inspections.
Perform safety checks, pressure testing, and risk assessments to ensure a safe working environment.
Optimize steam production and distribution to maximize energy efficiency and minimize operational costs.
Monitor fuel usage and implement strategies to reduce fuel consumption and emissions in compliance with environmental standards.
Analyze boiler and system performance data to recommend operational improvements and plant efficiency measures.
Supervise boiler technicians and boilerman staff, ensuring they are trained and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior boilerman and technicians.
Oversee emergency response procedures in the event of boiler malfunctions or operational failures.
Evaluate and troubleshoot all boilers to achieve operational functionality and performance of the overall systems.
Assist in testing and commissioning of new systems and equipment.
Perform other duties assigned by management.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Science with certification of aGrade 2 or Grade 1 Steam Engineer Competent Certification from DOSH (JKKP).
Strong knowledge of safety standards and procedures related to steam water system operations.
Proficiency in steam boiler operation, maintenance, and steam system troubleshooting.
Minimum of3 years of experience as a Steam Engineerin an industrial setting.
