Job Summary:
The Engineer, Sustaining Automation is responsible for the ongoing support, maintenance, and improvement of Masimo specialized automated equipment within the manufacturing environment. This role involves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, system modifications, and performance optimization to ensure continuous production efficiency, reliability, quality, and safety. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in automation technology, including PLCs, motion control, laser marking, vision, and pneumatic systems.
Duties & Responsibilities:
System Maintenance:Conduct regular and preventive maintenance on automation equipment and specialized machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
Troubleshooting and Repair:Diagnose and repair malfunctions in automation systems, related equipment, and specialized machinery, addressing mechanical, electrical, and software issues.
Responsible for overseeing RCA and data collection processes to identify recurring issues and implement preventive measures effectively.
Masimo Specialized Equipment Support:Provide dedicated support for Masimo specialized equipment, including calibration, programming, and optimization, to meet specific operational needs.
Equipment Duplication and Installation Support:Lead the execution of equipment duplication and installation projects, ensuring timely and efficient completion.
Facilitate coordination among cross-functional teams, external vendors, and machine builders to manage logistics, machine assembly, and installation effectively.
Provide technical expertise during installation, troubleshooting any issues to ensure seamless integration and functionality within existing systems.
Execute comprehensive FAT, SAT, and validation procedures to ensure equipment meets all specifications and operational requirements.
Serve as a subject matter expert on the newly installed equipment.
Upgrades, Enhancements, and Continuous Improvement:Identify, plan, and implement system upgrades, modifications, and enhancements for automation systems and Masimo specialized equipment to optimize efficiency, productivity, and safety.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives through Lean, Six Sigma, or other methodologies, focusing on automated and semi-automated systems.
Safety and Compliance:Ensure all activities, particularly those involving specialized equipment, comply with safety regulations and company policies. Participate actively in safety audits and improvement initiatives.
Documentation and Reporting:Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, system changes, and performance issues.
Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation for engineering and management review.
Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum of 2 years as a Sustaining Automation Engineer, with hands-on experience in maintaining and optimizing industrial automation equipment and electromechanical systems.
Excellent understanding of control architecture, system integration, and motion controls, with a focus on sustaining operations within a manufacturing environment.
Experience with mechanical troubleshooting for automated and semi-automated systems.
Experience with sustaining integrated systems involving complex motion, electrical and pneumatic actuators, and various analog and digital sensors.
Experience with deploying control solutions with a deep understanding of PLCs, Safety PLCs, and HMIs; familiarity with Panasonic and Opto 22 is preferred.
Experience with maintaining and troubleshooting industrial network communications, including Modbus, TCP/IP, and Ethernet/IP.
Experience with implementing FAT, SAT, commissioning, startup, and duplication for production.
Proficient in reading and interpreting CAD packages and electrical schematics. Experience with SolidWorks 3D and SolidWorks Electrical is preferred.
Experience with machine shop equipment, measuring tools & gages, hand tools, etc.
Strong conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills, particularly in fault finding and corrective action planning.
Excellent technical communication skills, both oral and written, for effective coordination and reporting.
Ability to diagnose and solve practical problems with minimal supervision, ensuring reliable system operations.
Education:
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent Engineering Degree – Control Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineer, Mechanical Engineering).
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
This position primarily works in an office and production environment. It requires frequent sitting, standing, and walking. Daily use of a computer and other computing and digital devices is required. May stand for extended periods when facilitating meetings or walking in the facilities. Some local or international travel is necessary, so requires the ability to operate a motor vehicle, maintain a valid driver's license, and maintain a valid travel passport.
