We are seeking a talented and experienced Export Control Officer to join their team in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Our client is a prominent global supplier of technology and services with a significant presence in Southeast Asia.
They operate in various sectors, including Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology, Consumer Goods, and Energy and Building Technology.
Leveraging their expertise in technology, software, and services, they offer innovative solutions for smart homes, smart cities, connected mobility, and connected manufacturing.
We are looking for an experienced Export Control Officer (ECO) with deep knowledge of export control and sanctions compliance.
The role will involve managing export-related activities, ensuring compliance with local, regional, and international regulations, and implementing global standards while monitoring sensitive business transactions: Key responsibilities: Policy Implementation : Ensure compliance with export control regulations based on the entity's risk profile.
Implement and monitor global standards and procedures, adjusting processes based on local legal requirements.
Export Control Management : Handle export control classifications, license determination, and applications based on US, EU, and national laws.
Conduct export control checks and manage export-related documentation and retention.
Transaction Review : Oversee the review and approval of sensitive business transactions, including technology transfers and cross-border activities.
Ensure compliance with regulations concerning embargoed countries, trading, brokering, and product transfers.
Monitoring and Reporting : Continuously monitor business activities for export control risks and report findings to management.
Conduct annual reviews of export control processes, risks, and controls.
Collaboration : Act as the go-to person for all export control-related queries at the local level.
Coordinate with local authorities on export control licensing and manage communications during audits.
Leadership and Guidance : Provide guidance on export control issues to internal teams, ensuring proper execution of export control procedures.
Lead self-assessments and nominate local coordinators where necessary.
Requirements In-depth knowledge of export control regulations and willingness to stay updated on changes in legislation.
Proven ability to independently handle compliance-related decisions with strong problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and present complex information clearly.
Strong attention to detail and organisational skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with ERP systems, SAP GTS preferred.
Prior experience in foreign trade, export control, or sanctions compliance is essential.
Leadership experience and the ability to guide staff on export control matters.
Professional experience in export control and sanctions compliance, preferably within a multinational organization.
Knowledge of international export control legal frameworks, with experience adapting processes to meet changing regulations.
Experience working with export control coordination and management in complex business environments.
