We offer:
Traineeships of up to 6 monthswithin the following sections of the EU Delegation to Malaysia, starting in March 2025, subject to budget availability.
Traineeship in the Political, Press and Information Section:
The Political section is responsible for political analysis and reporting, relations in this field with Malaysian interlocutors, coordination with EU Member States, and organization of public events. It also covers press and information activities, including substantial cultural diplomacy. There is a growing cooperation with Malaysia in different sectors, encompassing both political and press and information aspects.
Main tasks:
Assist with the analysis of the political situation in Malaysia;
Monitor local media regarding domestic and foreign policies including ASEAN relations, rule of law, human rights, and governance;
Support the EU's cooperation with Malaysia regarding human rights;
Draft background notes on specific issues;
Help with outreach to relevant local stakeholders;
Support the organization of events related to the work of the Delegation;
Attend and report from meetings, academic lectures, and think tanks.
Press and Information Trainee (PPI):
Monitor local media for priority issues of importance to EU-Malaysia relations;
Support the organization of the Delegation's public diplomacy events and activities;
Support the production of media products, such as daily news overviews and items for the Delegation's social media;
Participate in reporting on local events such as major political meetings, academic lectures, and think tanks; provide support for incoming visits;
Attend and report from events including major political meetings, academic lectures, and think tanks.
Traineeship in the Trade and Economic Section (TRADE):
The Trade and Economic Section is a small and dynamic section within the EU Delegation to Malaysia that deals with bilateral trade and economic relations between the EU and Malaysia. It works closely with the Malaysian Government, the network of European Trade Counsellors, as well as with Malaysian and European business organizations in areas of EU interest (e.g., trade in goods, procurement, trade irritants, trade and sustainable development, etc.).
Main tasks:
Support the Trade and Economic Section in analyzing and reporting on bilateral trade and investment developments and issues of particular interest;
Analyze and report on Malaysia's trade policy in relation to third countries, including ASEAN, and its impact on the EU;
Analyze and report on macro or sector-specific Malaysian economic policies and developments;
Participate in and report on local events, including seminars, workshops, and conferences;
Collate and analyze statistical data on trade and economic indicators.

Qualifications or special requirements:
Taking into account local health and security conditions, applicants currently residing in Malaysia will only be considered.
Political, Press and Information Section:
At least a Bachelor's degree in international relations, political science, law, or a similar field;
Excellent spoken and written English and Malay; interest in and knowledge of Malaysian politics is an advantage;
Excellent analytical and drafting skills; good IT skills.
Trade and Economic Section:
At least a Bachelor's degree in a related field;
Good drafting skills in English are required;
Knowledge of trade and economic policies, the international trading system, and legal questions is an asset but not a prerequisite;
Enthusiasm, teamwork abilities, passion for a multicultural and multilingual work environment, and resilience would be an advantage;
Excellent spoken and written English and Malay is an advantage.

Important information to read before applying:
Before applying, you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship).
Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. As an indication, 2024 monthly grants are published here. These amounts may be revised for traineeships starting in 2025. All costs related to travel, visa, insurance, and accommodation must be borne by the trainee.
Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.
The traineeships can only be offered in compliance with local legislation as well as the legislation of the country of origin.
Citizens from EU Member states:
Must provide proof that they will be covered against the risk of a pandemic and the costs of repatriation;
Must hold a relevant entrance visa and/or temporary residence permit where applicable, based on the traineeship agreement, the duration of the traineeship, and in compliance with local legislation.#J-18808-Ljbffr
