This is an exciting opportunity to join THE CULVERT as our new Head Chef. In this full-time position based in Kuching, Sarawak, you will be responsible for leading and managing all kitchen operations to deliver an exceptional dining experience for our guests. As a key member of our management team, you will play a strategic role in shaping the culinary direction of our restaurant.
What you'll be doing
Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations, including menu planning, inventory management, food preparation, and staff supervision
Develop and refine innovative seasonal menus that showcase locally-sourced, high-quality ingredients
Ensure consistent execution of dishes and maintain the highest standards of food quality and presentation
Manage, train and mentor a team of skilled chefs and kitchen staff to drive continuous improvement
Collaborate with the front-of-house team to enhance the overall dining experience
Monitor and control kitchen budgets to maximise profitability
Maintain a safe and hygienic kitchen environment in compliance with health and safety regulations
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years of experience as a Head Chef or in a senior culinary leadership role, preferably in a high-end restaurant or hotel environment
Proven track record of creating and executing successful menus that showcase your expertise in various culinary techniques and flavour profiles
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a kitchen brigade
Excellent time management, problem-solving, and organisational skills to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen
Passion for using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients and a commitment to sustainable food practices
Familiarity with food cost control and inventory management
