About the Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a person with the right skills and experience to join us as a Head Gardener at the Labuan War Cemetery, Malaysia for CAPA. In this position, you will be responsible for the day-to-day coordination and execution of the regular maintenance needed at the Labuan War Cemetery. This includes organising and planning the work for a team of foreign workers that are stationed at the site, while ensuring their safety and the proper completion of the assigned tasks.
In this role, you are tasked with ensuring that the condition of the site achieves and maintains the Standard of Care as established by the CWGC. To accomplish this, you will oversee and perform manual maintenance activities, ensure the equipment and machinery are appropriate and safe for the intended use, identify repairs needed and coordinate all work performed by workers and external contractors.
About You:
You have worked in a horticulture field or have relevant skills that can be readily applied to leading a team of gardeners. As the Head Gardener, you are expected to take charge of the care and maintenance of all aspects of the site, which includes the maintenance of the built structures, the memorials, the grounds, the horticultural features, the equipment as well as ensuring the safety and well-being of the workers and visitors. As the Head Gardener, you are the main point of contact and representative of the site.
To be successful in this position you should have:
A diploma or a Higher Nitec in Horticulture or Landscaping or an equivalent combination of education and experience as deemed appropriate by the CWGC.
High level of literacy in spoken and written English.
At least 3 years of working in a horticulture related field with progressive accumulation of responsibilities.
The ability to speak Tamil will be considered a strong asset.
A good level of computer literacy or the ability to learn quickly.
Working knowledge of maintenance practices for landscape and horticulture machinery and equipment.
Supervisory and staff management skills.
Effective communication and listening skills.
Decision making skills, and good judgement.
Proof of being an excellent team player, able to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships and recognise contributions made by others.
