The Wellsite Geologists will possess at least 7 years of experience in geological operations with a background supporting drilling operations and active exploration programs. The Wellsite Geologist will work with the Senior Wellsite Geologist in the transmission of all wellsite generated geological related data in a timely fashion.
Primary Functions/Responsibilities:
Safety:
Training, familiarity and use of Company's safety programs is required. Remain alert for real or potential safety problems and report all such problems to the responsible party and/or the Company's Drilling Supervisor on the rig. Participate in all related HSE rigsite exercises.
Communication:
Proactively communicate information and provide operations updates to Drilling Supervisor and Operations Geologist to discuss ongoing work, concerns, forward plans, etc. Acts as the wellsite representative of the Company Subsurface / G&G team. Work closely with wellsite drilling supervisors to keep them up to date on all pertinent geological-related activities during drilling operations and provide advice to assist in safe, cost-effective drilling as well as non-drilling operations. Attend daily rigsite drilling meetings and serve as key interface between Company Drilling Supervisor and geological related rigsite services including problem troubleshooting. Maintain effective communication with Mudlogging, Coring Engineer, LWD/MWD and Wireline service providers, clerks, and contractors to enhance continuous improvement processes.
Supervision:
Supervise the mudlogging operations/data, including their rig monitoring, sample catching, and preparation of mud logs, drilling data logs, show reports, and daily and other reports. Supervise all M/LWD & Wireline logging operations and data acquisition, including depth calibration, log splicing, and environmental corrections. Recommend to the Company any opportunity to decrease cost & risk and improve data quality. Execute the coring decisions made by the Company Subsurface team; report cuttings and other information and analysis to aid the Subsurface team in determining the final Coring Point. Responsible for taking digital pictures during several critical stages, e.g., during the laying down of the core from vertical to horizontal position. Evaluate drill cuttings for lithology and hydrocarbon shows, prepare and keep current a detailed interpretive Lithology Log, and perform correlations with offset well data and the well's prognosis.
Call casing setting depth and wireline logging points, in consultation with Company's Drilling Supervisor on the rig, Company's other representatives on the rig, and Company's operations staff in Kuala Lumpur. Assist the FE Engineer and Drilling Supervisor in coordinating, QA/QC, and monitoring of wireline operations. Supervise handling, packing, and labeling of all samples prior to dispatch to laboratory (e.g., Conventional cores, Formation Tester fluid samples, mud gas Isotubes, IsoJars, and sidewall cores). Supervise the collecting, processing, and dispatching of conventional cores and formation cutting samples to warehouse location. Monitor the quality of contract Formation Evaluation (FE) services and the expertise of FE contractor personnel. Immediately advise Company's Drilling Supervisor on the rig and the Kuala Lumpur office (Operations Geologist) of any perceived deficiencies. Equally, advise Company's Drilling Supervisor on the rig and Operations Geologist of perceived cases of excellent service. Mentor Geoscience Operations Trainee while at wellsite, if required.
Analyze, evaluate, and describe formations while drilling using drilled cuttings, drilling parameters, gas, M/LWD, and Wireline data and compare these data with predictions made at offset well exploration stage. Monitor, evaluate, and quality control collecting, processing, and dispatching of formation evaluation results and logs prior to accepting the fluid sample, formation sample, conventional core, sidewall core, data, or logs from contractors of Mud Logging, LWD/MWD, Coring, Wireline Logging. Perform "quick look" analysis/interpretation of the formation evaluation data/logs, and ensure timely transmittal of the logs in digital and hard copy (fax) format to specified destinations.
Reporting:
Write detailed geological reports for cuttings, sidewall cores, fluid sampling, and wireline logging operations. Generate the Daily Geological Reports ensuring all relevant wellsite geological data is fully up to date. Daily Geological Report to be uploaded and in ConocoPhillips and partner's offices at a pre-determined time every day. Prepare inputs for end of well reports and composite logs. Ensure wellsite filed tickets are correctly invoiced.
HSE Roles:
Actively participate in HSE initiatives and programs that include but are not limited to, Safety Observations and HSE Trainings.
