A Junior Sous Chef supports the Sous Chef, sharing responsibility for food preparation, kitchen operations, and administrative tasks. They assist in planning, executing, and supervising kitchen activities, including staff scheduling, stock management, and coordination with other food and beverage departments.
In the absence of the Sous Chef, they oversee the kitchen, address issues, and ensure smooth operations. The Junior Sous Chef also delegates tasks to staff, ensuring efficiency and adherence to quality standards in food preparation, storage, and service. Attention to detail and a strong sense of responsibility are key to maintaining kitchen excellence.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees production and preparation of culinary items.
Ensures all dishes (presentation, taste, portioning, etc.) meet the set standards before leaving the pass.
Maintains food handling and sanitation standards.
Ensures employees keep their work areas clean, neat, and organised.
Ensures that all associates comply with the stipulated grooming, hygiene, and uniform standards.
Checks the quality of raw and cooked food products to ensure that standards are met.
Ensures completion of assigned duties.
Works with Restaurant and Front of House departments to coordinate service and timing of events and meals.
Assists in dish creation and presentation.
Leads shifts while personally preparing food items and executing requests based on required specifications.
Develops and maintains positive working relationships with others.
Supports team to reach common goals.
Listens and responds appropriately to the concerns of other employees.
Helps troubleshoot any kitchen issues that may arise.
Constantly keeps oneself up to date with industry knowledge and proactively tries to improve one's work-related skills.
Identifies and ensures oneself and fellow colleagues utilise available learning & development resources to develop skills and perform their job efficiently and effectively.
