The Lead Electrical Engineer will provide high quality design and engineering knowledge and effective project management skills to support the ongoing project activities, and to provide complete analysis and design tasks assigned by Engineering Manager, Project Manager or the Management. Planning and conducting engineering projects of a complex nature in order to meet client requirements. Leading and supporting winning of new work, developing client relationships and enhancing Surbana Jurong and SMEC's market brand.

Job Description:Familiar with electrical power system engineering design, operation concept and philosophy. Designing electrical systems for power generation and energy facilities, including generators, transformers, switchgear, AC/DC distribution panels, diesel genset, battery system, UPS, cabling, earthing and lightning protection etc. Ensuring compliance with relevant codes, standards, and specifications. Collaborating with other engineering disciplines to ensure integration with overall plant design.
Familiar with high voltage (132kV & above) transmission system design operation concept and philosophy. Designing transmission lines (HVAC & HVDC), either overhead line, underground or undersea cabling.
Undertaking steady-state and dynamic simulations for renewable energy and power generation projects and carrying out Load Flow analysis, Short Circuit analysis, Reactive Power Compensation analysis, Harmonic analysis and Dynamic Transient Studies, Protection System and Relay Setting, Earthing and Lightning Protection studies etc.
Performing generator connection studies for transmission and distribution line options, and grid integration.
System modelling and validation, including modelling of associated components such as power plants, loads and plant controls.
Undertaking simulation of system disturbances and assessment of plant performance.
Ensuring that the electrical systems design comply with relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations. Participating in safety audits, conducting risk assessments, and implementing corrective actions to mitigate hazards.
Evaluating vendor proposals including data and drawings, selecting appropriate equipment, and ensuring compliance with project specifications and prudent utility best practice standards.
Identifying opportunities to improve energy efficiency and optimize the performance of the power plant systems. Implementing measures such as power factor correction, energy management strategies, and equipment upgrades to reduce energy consumption and operating costs.
Perform engineering calculations and simulations to ensure the performance, reliability, and safety of electrical components.
Production of all types of electrical project deliverables, including electrical power system studies, single line diagram, wiring diagram, cabling schedule, electrical load list, electrical protection etc.
Preparation of tender document & technical specification for electrical equipment, preparation of detail design calculation for earthing, lighting & cable sizing, preparation of power cable schedule etc.
Contributing to bid preparation and providing technical input into power and energy projects.
Managing the assigned tasks and be responsible for delivering satisfactory result under tight timeline, and willing to work beyond normal working hours if required.

To undertake other assignment from the Engineering Manager, Project Manager or Regional Director from time to time.
Job SpecificationElectrical / Power System Engineering degree from reputable university, Master degree holder will have added advantage.
At least 15 years post graduate working experience in the power generation, renewable energy & transmission industry with proven track record at least with energy and power project design power system studies and consultancy works.
High proficiency in power system study and analysis tools such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, DIGSILENT Power Factory etc.
Familiar with Python scripting for PSS/E simulation automation and Fortran scripting for PSS/E dynamic model development is preferred.
Candidates with gas/thermal power and other renewable energy (solar, wind, biogas, biomass, WTE etc) project experience will have added advantage.
Conversant in transmission and distribution grid code, API, IP, NEC, IEEE, IEC, NEMA, and ANSI codes & standards.
Registered Professional Engineer with Practicing Certificate (PEPC) with Board of Engineers Malaysia (or equivalent) is preferred.
Able to perform well under tight timeline and fast pace moving environment and multi-tasking ability under minimum supervision as individual contributor or part of a cross functional team.
Able and willing to mentor, train and guide junior staff.
Good spoken and written English with strong report writing skills to prepare and furnish reports/drawings.
Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment.
Willing to travel or to be based at outstation or at project site (local or overseas) as required.
