As part of a matrix RDD organisation, and within the Design Engineering function, Graphics and Packaging is large-scale team focussed on the design and development of product colour, graphics, literature, and packaging. Based in Global Development Campus, Johor Bahru and our Philippines Development Centre (PDC) or Singapore Technical Center, this international team provides the capability to pick up graphics and packing concepts from their UK based counterparts and develop these into designs that can be efficiently manufactured at scale. Position Overview:As the Lead Packaging Engineer, you will serve as a technical expert and leader in the field of packaging engineering, focusing on specific categories within our product portfolio. You will be responsible for guiding and mentoring a team of packaging engineers, ensuring they align with our vision, design products with a clear purpose, and adhere to industry standards and best practices, especially the new and emerging categories where packaging may play a different role in the purchase and post purchase process.Additionally, you will oversee the approval of all relevant documentation, lead process improvement initiatives, and serve as the escalation point for issues related to your assigned categories.Key Responsibilities:Technical Leadership: Provide expert guidance and mentorship to a team of packaging engineers within your designated categories. Ensure engineers develop innovative packaging solutions that align with the packaging vision and meet the intended purpose of each product.Documentation Review: Thoroughly review and approve all relevant documentation, including but not limited to drawings, Bill of Materials (BOM), Test Requirements, Problem Reports (PR), Process Change Request (PCR), Deviation Request (DR), and adherence to industry or Dyson Standards.Process Improvement: Lead continuous improvement efforts within your categories to enhance packaging design, engineering processes, and cost-effectiveness. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process enhancements and efficiency improvements.Escalation Handling: Act as the primary point of contact and escalation for issues related to packaging within your assigned categories. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues promptly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines.Category Expertise: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices within your designated categories. Share knowledge with the team and incorporate new developments into packaging design and engineering.Material Selection: Collaborate with suppliers to identify and evaluate packaging materials, considering factors such as cost, performance, and environmental impact.Testing and Validation: Work with verification and validation engineers to validate packaging material and design tests, including performance, durability, and transportation testing, to ensure meeting product and packaging requirement.Cost Analysis: Support cost analysis efforts by estimating packaging material costs and identifying opportunities for cost savings through optimization.Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design and Product Experience, Design Managers, Manufacturing, and Quality control, to ensure packaging solutions align with product requirements and production processes.Environmental Sustainability: Work on projects to reduce environmental impact through sustainable packaging design and materials selection, aligning with our company's commitment to sustainability.Documentation: Maintain accurate records of packaging specifications, design iterations, development progress, lessons learnt and project documentation.Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in packaging engineering.Qualifications:Minimum of 5 years packaging development work experience with strengths proven to have the ability in managing packaging development projects, including the experience in pharmaceutical industry.Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.In-depth knowledge of packaging materials (, corrugated inserts, folding cartons, pulp tray, thermoform trays, bags and internal protective packaging), design principles, and industry standards.Familiar with regulatory requirements for medical device packaging, including standards set by regulatory bodies such as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and ISO (International Organization for Standardization).Knowledge of QMS standards, such as ISO 13485, and experience in implementing and maintaining quality systems within a medical device manufacturing environment.Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team of engineers.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Proficiency in CAD software (, SolidWorks, NX) and packaging design tools (, Kasemake, Artios CAD).Excellent communication and teamwork skills.Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet project deadlines.Experience in a leadership or mentoring role is a plus.Benefits:Dyson Malaysia monitors the market to ensure competitive salaries and bonuses.
