Job DescriptionAs our Legal Counsel you will provide the efficient provision of legal services for one or more business units throughout NEXTDC. You will assist in achieving the company's commercial objectives while mitigating risk.
You will be responsible for:
Supporting and collaborating with the (primarily Australian based) sales team in structuring and negotiating contracts, ensuring commercial terms meet the company's standards
Assisting the customer delivery team and provide adequate oversight on day-to-day management of customer matters
Providing expert legal advice for NEXTDC's operations, negotiation and risk management, including:review, preparation and amendment of customer facing contracts (including master services agreement and service level agreements) and related matters
identify and assess legal risks associated with customer agreements and transactions and recommending appropriate risk mitigation strategies to the relevant business units
providing general advice on regulatory compliance issues, including data privacy laws and industry specific regulations.
general advice on and review of marketing material
intellectual property mattersProviding regular legal training sessions for the sales team on key legal topics, contract negotiation best practices and risk management
Developing an in-depth knowledge of NEXTDC's operations, technologies and products/services
Assisting in the development of policies, procedures and training programmes for staff on relevant legal issues
Providing expert legal advice in the interpretation of legislation and monitor changes and developments in the legal and regulatory environment
To be successful in this position you will have:
In-depth knowledge of relevant acts and legislation
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to distil complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for non-legal stakeholders
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a fast-paced, cross functional team environment
Excellent attention to detail and drafting skills
Strong negotiation, especially service agreement negotiation, and influencing skills
Ability to prioritise competing demands
A high degree of integrity and trust
QualificationsBachelor of Law / JD
3-5 years' post qualification experience in a well-regarded firm or corporation
Previous experience in general corporate and commercial contract reviews, ideally for an Australian or multinational organisation
