This position provides key legal and compliance support within the company, ensuring that business operations align with legal requirements and organizational policies. The role focuses on drafting and reviewing contracts, supporting compliance programs, and assisting with corporate governance activities. He/She will work closely with other departments and external legal counsel to manage day-to-day legal tasks, monitor regulatory changes, and support internal training initiatives. The position requires strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal Support & Document Review:Assist in providing legal advice related to contracts, employment law, and corporate governance matters.
Draft, review, and manage various legal documents and contracts.
Support the Senior Manager in managing legal risks by ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
Liaise with external legal counsel as needed for complex legal matters.Compliance Support:Assist in the development and maintenance of the company's compliance programs, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and industry regulations.
Help monitor and audit business processes to ensure ongoing compliance.
Report on compliance issues and suggest corrective actions to the Senior Manager.Integrity and Ethics Program:Promote the company's values of integrity, transparency, and ethical behaviour.
Assist in implementing ethics training programs and addressing incidents of misconduct.
Provide support in fostering an ethical work environment.Corporate Secretarial Duties:Assist in ensuring the company meets its statutory obligations under the Companies Act 2016 and other relevant regulations.
Maintain statutory documents, such as resolutions and ensure timely submission to regulatory authorities.
Help organize and document board and committee meetings, including preparing minutes.
Maintain company records, including registers of members, directors, and secretaries.Collaboration with Other Departments:Work with the Corporate Services team to ensure legal and compliance policies are effectively communicated across the organization.
Assist in delivering training on compliance and governance matters.Regulatory Affairs Support:Help monitor changes in laws and regulations that may affect the company's operations.
Assist in coordinating interactions with regulatory bodies and ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.Reporting and Documentation:Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of legal documents, compliance activities, and integrity investigations.
Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on legal, compliance, and integrity issues.
Ensure proper documentation of all compliance-related activities and decisions.Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent;
Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a legal, compliance, or ethics role, preferably within the construction and project management sector.
Corporate Secretarial certification (e.g., ICSA, MAICSA) is an advantage; if the candidate is not currently certified, the successful candidate will be expected to obtain certification post-hire.
Knowledge of local laws and regulations, including the Companies Act 2016.
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
