Reporting to the Lead Artist and/or Art Director(s), the Texture/Material Artist works within a team of artists to create textures and/or materials necessary for monthly content pushes and milestones. The Texture/Material artist's main responsibilities will be creating Textures/Materials for a wide range of subject matter and styles.
The Texture/Material Artist is able to maintain and manage high levels of quality while working in a rapid, rigorous, and timely manner; has advanced / intermediate texturing experience in addition to knowledge of art processes and production pipeline.
ResponsibilitiesVisualize and create Textures/Materials in a way that contributes to the overall visual quality of the production.
Work efficiently and effectively within technical constraints of a production while generating high-quality artwork that matches or exceeds studio standards.
Communicate regularly with the Lead Artist regarding the status of current tasks; obtain Lead Artist's guidance and approval as required to advance tasks, project initiatives, and milestones.
Contribute effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Assist in maintaining consistency and quality of texture output with the Leads and Art Director.
Familiarize and learn to use proprietary technologies or software as necessary.
Refine personal artistic abilities and knowledge of new software packages and in-house tools constantly.
RequirementsSolid understanding of procedural Texture/Material techniques and optimization, able to create tiling and unique textures representing a variety of material types.
Expert level proficiency in texture software packages including but not limited to Substance Suite (Designer & Painter).
Knowledge of PBR and physically based material standards.
Knowledge about how material blending systems work.
Able to produce materials in a wide variety of styles, themes, and biomes.
Proficiency with Blender/3DSMax/Maya, Photoshop, and/or Zbrush.
Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and staff to create a results-driven, team-oriented environment.
Familiarity with Unreal Engine 4/5 and ability to adapt to different game engines according to the project.
Understanding of in-engine lighting and ability to apply modern rendering techniques.
