This position involves a comprehensive evaluation of medical data, analysis of health trends, and providing expert medical insight to support underwriting decisions. The Medical Officer acts as a bridge between medical expertise and insurance risk assessment, ensuring our reinsurance company effectively mitigate health-related risks while maintaining profitability JOB DESCRIPTION: Medical Risk Assessment / Supporting Activities: Conduct thorough reviews of medical records, claims data, and other pertinent information to evaluate the health risks associated with insurance policies. Identify potential liabilities and quantify risks based on medical analysis. Provide comprehensive risk profiles for insurance applicants based on medical history and current health status, enabling underwriters to accurately assess the level of risk associated with each policy Limited availability of medical data may hinder accurate risk assessment and trend analysis and ensure data liability. Analyzing and interpreting complex medical information when dealing with diverse medical conditions and treatment. Anticipating future medical trends and risk requires sophisticated data analysis and predictive modeling. Integrating of medical insights with actuarial models and underwriting practices. Underwriting Support Collaborate with underwriters to assess the insurability of applicants based on their medical history, current health status, and projected risks. Provide recommendations and insights to underwriting teams to inform decision-making processes. Offer tailored medical insights and recommendations to underwriters, facilitating informed decision-making processes that balance risk exposure with business objectives. Data Analysis and Trend Monitoring Utilize medical expertise to analyze health data trends, including disease prevalence, treatment outcomes, and healthcare utilization patterns. Identify emerging health risks and opportunities for proactive risk management strategies Identify emerging health trends and potential risks through data analysis, enabling proactive risk management strategies that anticipate and mitigate future challenges Policy Development Assist in the development of underwriting guidelines, policy terms, and risk management protocols. Ensure that insurance policies align with industry standards and regulatory requirements while effectively managing medical risks. Contribute to the development of underwriting guidelines and policy terms that reflect current medical knowledge and effectively manage medical risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Research and Development Stay abreast of advancements in medical science, healthcare technologies, and epidemiological trends. Research to enhance understanding of medical risks and contribute to the development of innovative risk management strategies. Generate insights through research activities that enhance understanding of medical risks and contribute to the development of innovative risk management strategies, positioning the company as a leader in medical underwriting practices. Cross-functional Collaboration Collaborate with other departments such as actuarial, claims management, and legal teams to integrate medical insights into overall risk management strategies. Facilitate interdisciplinary communication to optimize decision-making processes Foster effective communication and collaboration across departments, facilitating the integration of medical insights into overall risk management strategies and optimizing decision-making processes for the benefit of the company and its clients. Supporting Duties & Additional Responsibilities Provide timely advice on medical risk (interpretations of complex health conditions, laboratory, ECG, Treadmill test, imaging reports) on cases referred from underwriters and claims assessors. Promote the Company's thought leadership through presenting at industry events and publications. Provide internal and external client support including medical knowledge sharing with objectives and impact. Work with other teams on broader projects to translate actional medical insights into opportunities to support growth initiatives. Ad hoc projects or tasks as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Medical degree (MD or equivalent) with specialized training in a relevant field such as internal medicine, public health, or medical underwriting. Board certification or equivalent credential in a relevant medical specialty. 6-10 years of working experience, with a Minimum of 6 years of experience in medical underwriting, preferably within the reinsurance or insurance industry Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex medical data and trends. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey medical concepts to non-medical stakeholders. Proficiency in medical research methodologies and data analysis techniques Strong analytical and data interpretations kill Familiarity with insurance underwriting principles and practices.
