National Institutes of Biotechnology Malaysia (NIBM) established on 27 January 2012 is a consortium of national biotechnology institutes under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) operating as a Company Limited by Guarantee to carry out research, development, innovation and commercialization of modern biotechnology.
The consortium consists of three institutes which is the Malaysian Agro-Biotechnology Institute (ABI) in Serdang, Selangor, the Malaysian Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical Institute (IPharm) in Gelugor, Penang, and the Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute (MGVI) in Bangi, Selangor.
NIBM invites qualified, experienced, dynamic, and work-ready individuals to join our organization for the following position:
Position: Programmer (Grade 8-11 – Contract)Location: Malaysia Genome and Vaccine Institute (MGVI), Bangi.
Responsibilities:
Development and maintenance of bioinformatics pipelines and scripts to process omics data, including for SARS-CoV-2, human population, genomics, metagenomics, plant genomics, metabolomics, proteomics and others;
Identification, evaluation, and recommendation of appropriate computational software and hardware to enable timely analysis;
Working with MGVI-NIBM's bioinformatics infrastructure including the Genome Computing Centre (GCC), cloud computing solutions, and generation of reports, visual summaries, statistical infographics and metrics to support research findings;
Application of research grants and working with collaborators to carry out genomics-based R&D for MGVI-NIBM;
Author scientific manuscripts for publishing in peer-reviewed journals;
Other related work as ordered by the Institute's management.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor Degree (with experience), Master Science or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the field of Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related field recognized by the Malaysian government from a local or foreign higher education institution or a qualification recognized as equivalent;
At least 1-3 years of relevant experience as a Bioinformatics Programmer or in a similar role;
Expertise in bioinformatics programming languages (e.g.
Python, Perl, R, bash);
Expertise in containerization of bioinformatics tools and environments such as Nextflow, Docker, Singularity, and Conda;
Familiarity with the process of local and international R&D grant applications;
Familiarity with genomics-based bioinformatics such as sequence quality assessment, de novo genome assembly, and variant calling;
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
