Role Summary
Flowserve is looking for a Project Engineer to be located in the Global Project Management program office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The project engineer will support project managers with execution of large capital projects, performing product selection and application engineering, supporting change management of equipment, and providing technical interface activities between Flowserve manufacturing facilities and major project customers.
Activities will include review and interpretation of project specifications to define and select appropriate valve types, including valve sizing, material selection, inspection, and test standards. Additional tasks include performing manufacturer document reviews to confirm offering meets project requirements, developing documents to support technical exceptions, deviation, and clarifications requests in support of bid and order execution. Other analysis and information processing tasks may be required based on project type driving specific actions to support manufacturing execution.
Effective and disciplined management of project equipment lists, tracking customer and vendor driven changes and effective communication of these lists and changes is the key to the success of this position.
Support of projects by the project engineer may also include performing the following tasks:
Project specification development and compliance review
Product evaluation and comparison to confirm fit for purpose
Product lifecycle cost review
Gap review to facilitate industry best practice compliance and standardization
Generate basic product weight & dimensional data
P&IDs/Datasheets review and products selection mapping
Confirm product selection against Project design intent and functional requirements
Support timely completion of project management deliverables
Assist in development of project status updates and weekly GPM execution report
Propose, support, and execute continuous process improvement programs to increase program and project efficiencies
Job Description
Reporting to the Kuala Lumpur project management manager, the project engineer will be the primary point of contact for technical aspects of project order execution from early selection of product to project information handover to service and support personnel upon deliverable completion and project close out.
Project success is measured by safety, positive customer experience, successfully completed contractual requirements and project profitability. Project management policy compliance, metric reporting and suggesting corrective actions based on lessons learned is required as part of the role. Regular interaction with factory project management teams is expected to maintain seamless activities between the production facility and the global project management program.
Responsibilities
Takes responsibility for the flow and content of technical information involved in execution of orders for equipment and non-material deliverables supporting major CAPEX projects.
Supports factory personnel with inquiries from clients and customers involved in strategic and large revenue Flowserve contracts.
Establish a strong relationship with client technical resources and maintain those relationships through adversity.
Execute the project in a safe, efficient, and timely manner in accordance with the client agreed upon contractual obligations and specifications.
Leverage industry best practices and tools to support positive project financials, documentation, risk management and schedule in order to adhere to key KPIs.
Implement corrective actions to rectify faltering metrics through identification of problem areas, proposal of potential solutions to managers and following through with selected path forward plans.
Ensure company interests are protected and contractual risk is minimized.
Comprehend technical and related commercial aspects of contractual conditions and technical specifications.
Ensure clear and open communication with project team members and between project team and factory functional groups to assure changes in scope of work and schedule are captured in the Change Management System (MOC).
Provide client technical support interface to factory project managers throughout the project life cycle.
Communicate technical challenges which may result in deliverable cost or schedule challenges.
Education:
Minimum with Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical engineering is required.
Experience/Skills:
5+ years engineering experience in valve product selection, application engineering or valve design.
Knowledge of industry standards including, but not limited to API, ISO, MSS, ASTM and DIN.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat).
Strong capability of English written and spoken language. Chinese is a strong plus.
Strong inter-personal skills to be able to work with individuals across a wide range of experience levels, knowledge backgrounds and incentive drivers.
Excellent organizational and cross-cultural skills with an ability to work independently.
Focused and purpose driven attitude with strong willingness to learn/work.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple objectives and tasks is required.
