The Safety & Health Officer is responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational safety and health regulations, promoting a safe work environment, and reducing workplace hazards in the manufacturing facility. This role involves implementing safety programs, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring adherence to company and legal safety standards.
Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance:Ensure compliance with local occupational safety and health laws (e.g: OSHA, FMA).
Liaise with local authorities and government agencies on statutory/legislature compliance matters concerning safety and health (DOSH, DOE, etc.).
Maintain records of incidents, inspections, and compliance activities as required by authorities.
Liaise with regulatory bodies during audits, inspections, and certifications.
Responsible for safety and health systems, procedures, and provide policies on occupational safety & health for the company.Risk Assessment and Hazard Management:Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks.
Oversee the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.Safety Program Development:Develop, implement, and maintain workplace safety and health programs.
Establish and enforce safety policies and procedures for employees and contractors.
Collaborate with the operations team to design safer processes and workstations.Training and Awareness:Conduct risk assessment and facilitate training for workers regarding all safety issues.
Promote safety awareness campaigns and initiatives to encourage a proactive safety culture.
Develop and implement emergency response plans, including fire drills and evacuation procedures.
Lead the investigation of accidents and near misses, identifying root causes and preventative measures.Reporting and Documentation:Prepare and submit safety reports, accident statistics, and compliance documentation.
Maintain and update safety-related documentation, such as Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Investigate workplace accidents, injuries, and illnesses, and recommend preventive measures.
Ensure timely reporting of incidents to management and relevant authorities.Requirements:
Qualifications:Diploma or Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent.
Certified Safety & Health Officer (SHO) with a valid green book (if required by local regulations).Experience:Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in relevant manufacturing, especially in the food industry.
Familiarity with safety management systems (e.g: ISO 45001).Skills and Competencies:Strong knowledge of local safety regulations and standards.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and safety management software.
Ability to multi-task & work independently under minimum supervision.
Green book certified is a must.
