We are seeking a dedicated, dynamic and highly committed individual to support the strategic development of the school'sSpecial Educational Needs(SEN) provision and oversight of the day-to-day operation of that policy with the aim of raising students with special needs to meet individual requirements that have been set out for them.
Areas of Responsibility and Key Tasks:Maintain a special educational needs register.
Put provision in place to ensure that progress of students with special educational needs improves relative to those without special educational needs.
Support all students with special educational needs.
Support all staff in understanding the needs of students with special educational needs, including regular training.
Support departmental development of special educational needs provision.
Monitor progress towards targets for pupils with special educational needs.
Liaise with staff, parents, external agencies and other schools to co-ordinate their contribution, provide maximum support and ensure continuity of provision.
Promote inclusion best practices and contribute to the aims and ethos of the school through membership of the senior leadership team and attendance at school events.
Evaluate the effectiveness of provision.
Teaching and Learning:Support the identification of and disseminate the most effective teaching approaches for individual students with special educational needs.
Work with staff to develop effective ways of bridging barriers to learning through:
Assessment of needs
Monitoring of teaching quality and student achievement
Target setting (IEPs or Provision Maps)
Keeping accurate records
Collect and interpret specialist assessment data to inform practice.
Undertake day-to-day coordination of special educational needs students' provisions through close liaison with staff, parents and external agencies.
Work with principals, key stage coordinators, teachers and pastoral staff to ensure all students' learning is of equal importance and that there are high and realistic expectations of students.
Co-ordinate all Annual Reviews and reviews of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) where appropriate and attend/chair meetings when necessary.
