You will exercise sound judgement and initiative while undertaking both your project responsibilities and design tasks.For you to be successful, it will be necessary for you to achieve a satisfactory level in all of the areas described below. It would be expected that your immediate focus would be in the areas of technical leadership and high-quality project delivery across a range of infrastructure projects from small structural design tasks through to major highway and rail projects.About the opportunityTakes a leadership role in the promotion of a culture of safety and quality within the Bridge Section.Contribute to the profile of Jacobs as a technical leader through the writing of technical papers for publication/presentation where applicable.Provide input in strategic decisions within the section such as selection of suitable resources for projects, bid strategy and go/no go assessments, and software selection.Support strong service delivery to all clients.Locate and progress business development opportunities within existing contracts.Represent self and company's capabilities in new business opportunities.Contribute capability statements and proposals.Progress business opportunities specifically for bridge work to help maintain work stream independent of major transport infrastructure projects.Develop contacts and foster client relationships outside of current clients.Participate towards developing strategic alliances.Represent skills to internal clients (other groups) to encourage opportunities for cross-selling.Provide preliminary and concept designs for road and rail bridges as well as other civil structures.Undertake detailed designs for road and rail bridges.Prepare calculation reports of designs.Direct and review work of others for accuracy, quality, safety and cost effectiveness.Attend project meetings; client meetings.Ensure consistency of design with the tender, brief and relevant codes and standards, and manage departures.Mentor engineering staff on technical aspects of design and promote leading edge design techniques.Maintain chartered status as required to meet technical competency requirements.Report progress against agreed budgets and schedule.Assist with and monitor financial performance within Projects.Effectively liaise with internal Jacobs teams to deliver solutions.Build relationships across Jacobs' organizational structure, both locally and functionally across regions.Mentor other bridge and structural team members in bridge structures.AsSenior Bridge Engineer , be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) to whom team members can relate questions and seek advice.Mentor and coach others with less experience to enable them to work at a more advanced level.Support the Section Leader in recruitment activities.Balance workload to meet expectations – collaborate with Section Leader and Design / Project Managers.Support Project Managers / Projects Directors managing operational risk, including project delivery, quality and service.Here's what you'll needBachelor's degree in civil/structural engineering as a minimum with at least 8 to 10 years' experience in bridges and heavy civil structure design.Must have, or be near to attaining, PE or CEng status.The candidate must be able to perform under pressure in a design/construct environment.Deliver reliably on time without error.Good communication skills to work effectively within our team and have direct contact with estimators, design managers, junior engineers/team members and staff in our clients' organisations.Respectful of others who may be less knowledgeable and provide mentoring and coaching using Situation, Behaviour Impact methodology.Ability to articulate a clear direction and possess good social, networking and presentation skills.Proven track record as a leader in the business.Why JacobsAt Jacobs, we offer rewarding careers with ongoing development opportunities, flexible working arrangements and a culture that is collaborative and inclusive.
