Senior Geologist - Reservoir Modeling and StratigraphyWe are looking for the right people - people who want to innovate, achieve, grow and lead. We attract and retain the best talent by investing in our employees and empowering them to develop themselves and their careers. Experience the challenges, rewards and opportunity of working for one of the world's largest providers of products and services to the global energy industry.
Position Overview:
We are looking for an experienced Geologist with a strong background in stratigraphic correlation, reservoir facies modeling, and static reservoir modeling to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of integrating geological, petrophysical, and geophysical data to build reliable static models that assess hydrocarbon resources and optimize production strategies. The position requires expertise in reservoir characterization, 3D structural modeling, and volumetric evaluation, with a focus on improving reservoir management and development.
Key Responsibilities:
Stratigraphic Correlation and Revision:Review and refine existing stratigraphic correlations using well log data, ensuring consistency with well production and pressure data, geological markers (e.g., coal/carbonate markers, shale packages), seismic horizons, and sequence stratigraphy (LST, TST, HST).
Ensure the updated stratigraphy is aligned with regional geological frameworks and depositional environments.Reservoir Facies Characterization:Review and update the characterization and classification of reservoir facies, integrating well logs, core data, and regional geological insights.
Ensure facies models align with geological interpretations and observed data.Analog Deposition Environments:Identify or propose new analog depositional environments based on observed data and regional geological trends.
Ensure the analogs support accurate geological modeling for the development of static reservoir models.3D Structural Modeling:Develop and model 3D structural models for all reservoirs, incorporating data from petrophysical and geophysical studies.
Model the distribution and geometry of reservoir facies using well data, seismic data, depositional analogs, and feedback from dynamic models.Rock and Fluid Property Modeling:Model the distribution of reservoir rock and fluid properties derived from petrophysical studies, integrating these properties into static models to enhance reservoir characterization.
Ensure consistency between geological interpretations and petrophysical data.In-Place Hydrocarbon Volumes:Estimate in-place hydrocarbon volumes using deterministic techniques in line with theSPE Petroleum Resource Management System (PRMS)guidelines.
Evaluate sensitivity and uncertainty of all volumetric parameters, including rock and fluid properties (e.g., structural uncertainty, variogram distribution).Volumetric Evaluation:Assess the range of hydrocarbon resources using deterministic, probabilistic, and/or stochastic methods, ensuring compliance withPRMSguidelines.
Build multiple scenarios (e.g., low, mid, and high case stochastic realizations) to quantify volumes and optimize recovery potential.Development Strategy & Well Design:Propose development strategies and recommend well designs (e.g., horizontal, extended-reach wells) based on updated geological models and identified resource opportunities.
Focus on cost optimization in well design and development to maximize recovery from identified resources.Model Comparison and Updates:Review and document changes and differences between the updated static model and the approved working model.
Ensure accurate documentation of model revisions, with clear justifications for changes made to the geological interpretation.Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum 15 yearsof experience as a geologist in the oil and gas industry, with a focus on reservoir modeling, stratigraphic analysis, and static modeling.
At least 10 yearsof experience in static modeling, including facies characterization, 3D structural modeling, and modeling of reservoir rock and fluid properties.
At least 10 yearsof experience in exploration and petroleum development projects within the past 15 years.
Minimum 10 yearsof specific experience working inMalaysian basins , with a strong understanding of regional geology and geophysical data.
Minimum 5 yearsof experience in developing stratigraphic correlations, modeling 3D structures, and characterizing both reservoir and non-reservoir facies.
Involved in at least five (05) Field Development Planning projects.
Proven experience in identifying analog depositional environments and modeling reservoir facies distribution and geometry.
Strong expertise in evaluating uncertainties related to reservoir rock and fluid properties and their impact on static modeling.
Comprehensive knowledge of industry-standard modeling techniques and reservoir simulation tools.
Experience integrating seismic data into geological models for reservoir characterization.
Familiarity withPRMSguidelines for assessing hydrocarbon volumes and reserves.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
