Overview:
The Jeffrey Cheah Institute on Southeast Asia (JCI) is an independent public policy think-tank, based at Sunway University. The mission of JCI is to develop sustainable and inclusive policy solutions to some of the region's most pressing development problems.
Research
Conduct research, publish journal articles, conference papers and other peer reviewed outputs in relevant subject disciplines, and secure funding to support research activities.
Supervise student research projects, including Doctoral and/or Masters students.
Lead Research Centres and/or teams of academic and research staff, participate in collaborative research projects, ensuring that high quality research is carried out to the highest ethical standards in line with relevant regulations, policies and procedures.
Engage proactively with the wider research community in their fields of study, promoting their own research and the academic reputation of the University.
Teaching
Develop and deliver lectures, tutorials and other teaching and learning activities, including by electronic/online means.
Initiate and lead on the design, development, delivery, review and enhancement of the programmes, ensuring lectures, tutorials and other teaching and learning activities are appropriate to their discipline.
Assess student work and progress, providing constructive and timely feedback.
Regularly review the effectiveness of their teaching, and proactively seek ways to improve the quality and effectiveness of their teaching.
Service
Participate constructively in Department, School and/or University committees, and undertake leadership roles within the department and school, such as Programme Leader.
Help to arrange and participate in internal and external events, such as open days, outreach activities, visits to partner institutions and internship placements.
Support and assist senior colleagues in ensuring the smooth running of the department and programmes, and mentor junior colleagues.
Provide academic counselling to students, referring them to other support services as required.
Key Selection Criteria:
PhD in field of studies relevant to Public Policy, such as Political Science, International Relations, Governance, Law, etc.
Good track record of research and publications, with relevant experience in education sector.
Extensive experience in teaching relevant courses and supervising Master's level research students.
Proven management and leadership skills in an educational institution is desirable.
Excellent understanding of the regional research and education environment and landscape.
Excellent conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong ability to develop, implement and review administrative processes and policies with a commitment towards service excellence.
Willing to work on weekends when required.
