The Research and Development (R&D) department is responsible for various new development engineering duties, including researching, designing, and prototyping new products. This includes liaising with potential customers to develop possible product concepts and proceeding with detailed design and prototyping. The new product design should take into consideration the current product issues and improve the product.
Roles and Responsibilities
Communicate with potential customers to capture the requirements and needs of the new product.
Research current trends and the latest technology for possible solutions.
Identify implementable solutions for company products.
Draft concepts that accommodate requests from customers and potential future markets.
Carry out parts selection with verification of engineering calculations.
Use design software to develop detailed designs of the approved concepts.
Carry out FEA for critical components to ensure the durability of the product.
Communicate with suppliers on new parts sourcing.
Identify the required tests to verify the basic motion of the new product.
List prototype test check criteria.
Assess all prototype tests and identify issues and risks.
Solve all issues and improve the prototype design to achieve near-perfect results.
Produce assembly procedures for the production team.
List assembly critical dimensions for checking.
Be in charge of new development products.
Ensure designed products meet specification requirements.
Lead a team of 2-3 members.
Check engineering drawings and BOM prepared by team members.
Review testing results and reports, providing improvement suggestions to meet product specifications.
