The Sonographer works under the guidance of qualified Radiologists and within the framework of their duties and responsibilities to promote patient health and assist in the smooth daily operation of the imaging department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operate sonography equipment to record and produce images of the composition, shape and motion of organs, blood, tissues or bodily masses.
Prepare patients for exams and observe during procedures to ensure their comfort and safety.
Perform ethical and legal duties, such as obtaining written consent, preparing incident reports or reporting signs of neglect/abuse.
Maintain cleanliness and order of workstation, room and equipment.
Ensure prompt delivery of ultrasound services to patients.
Liaise with Radiologists on the outcome of the ultrasound scan.
Ensure courtesy, tact & politeness at all times.
Warm up ultrasound equipment and ensure the lights & air conditioning are operational in the department; turn off the equipment at the end of the day.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Answer all inquiries from patients, visitors, and relatives, referring to the Chief Radiographer/Radiologist if in doubt.
Call patients from the ward as needed.
Ensure the correct patient for the correct examination.
Ensure records are accurately kept in the department.
Familiarize with the functions of other related service units.
Understand and adhere to Pantai Hospital Penang policies & procedures.
Involve in Quality Improvement activities in the department.
Participate in community activities when required.
Participate in guidance/teaching of new/junior staff.
Perform other appropriate tasks and duties assigned within the realm of the employee's knowledge and abilities.
Assist as needed in the arrangement of Community Service projects and other projects conducted by the Hospital.
Undertake any other duties as delegated by the immediate superior.
Job Requirement
Academic Qualification
Diploma/ Degree in Ultrasonography.
Skills and Experience Required
Excellent interpersonal skills.
