Under the direction of QA Manager, the Supplier Quality Engineer will support and manage material qualification, develop qualification plans, and work with production and engineering teams to investigate material variation, improvement, and/or cost reduction projects.
AuthoritiesAuthorize sourcing vendors for manufacturing aids or components for quality controls.
Authorize issuance of SCARs to vendors due to quality issues.
ResponsibilitiesSupplier selection– Work with the Edmund Optics Sourcing team to finalize suitable suppliers based on quality, capability, services, regulatory requirements, etc.
Supplier qualification– Implement proper qualification processes through vendor audits, material testing, and/or supplier compliance assessments to qualify new vendors and periodically maintain the qualification of existing suppliers.
Assessment tracking– Track new components' quality performance to ensure they meet company quality requirements during the assessment phase. Act as a liaison with suppliers for corrective actions during the assessment phase and facilitate the smooth transfer of trial products to mass production.
Supplier Performance Evaluation (QBR)– Review supplier performance.
Process Improvement– Work with suppliers and internal customers to establish robust manufacturing processes through effective supplier management.
Develop procedures for new purchased components and materials– Provide engineering support for receiving inspections.
Raise SCARs and non-conformities– Follow up on 8D reports from suppliers for quality complaints, then communicate and provide feedback on investigation findings to the internal team. Verify the implementation and effectiveness of supplier corrective actions via on-site visits or document verification.
Work oncost reductionprojects related to the optimization of vendor selection and qualification.
Chair meetingswith suppliers and buyers to discuss supplier-related issues.
Support other quality tasks assigned by the Superior and Manager.
QualificationsDiploma or Degree in an engineering discipline.
Minimum 3 years of QA experience in a manufacturing environment covering the full scope of QA systems, processes, and audit requirements.
Required Skills & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of ISO9001, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA), and audit requirements.
Metrology, inspection methods, and equipment.
Understanding of optics manufacturing processes.
Experience working in Quality Assurance.
