A Wintel Engineer will be responsible for leading and delivering hands-on server infrastructure for operation and project deliverable. This includes providing technical and tactical guidance to other team members, developing and improving the automation of existing processes and IaaS platforms, and creating, documenting, and implementing standards for new and existing systems.
A Wintel Engineer will work largely autonomously on a range of server builds (physical, VM, or vPC), patching, and will act independently to provide support and strategy for the server environment, ensuring technology remains current and adapts with industry trends.
What you'll be doingCoordinate and manage new/refresh servers (VM or physical)/vPCs build and perform a cutover to live
Lead and deliver enterprise-level Wintel patch, update, upgrade, or server build/provisioning
Evaluate new and emerging technologies to support business needs
Increase our agility by developing build automation, faster and more flexible deployment techniques, and powerful configuration management
Identify and automate manual tasks and processes
Advanced configuration and administration of Wintel servers
Work with internal business partners to develop requirements and solutions
Expand and evolve our infrastructure across dedicated hosted systems and cloud-based deployments
Develop sophisticated and flexible monitoring services to highlight performance and availability issues
Support and maintain production systems (including on-call cover where required)
Adhere to ITIL standards and processes
QualificationsMore about you
Patch management skill sets
Patch success and failure reporting management (update and tracking)
In-depth knowledge of Wintel (multiple Windows versions) essential
Experience supporting a LAMP environment (Wintel, Apache, MySQL, PHP) required
Knowledge of virtualization and cloud technologies, VMWare, vRealize required
Knowledge of docker and container technology preferred
Infrastructure automation and orchestration tools, AutoYaST, Kickstart, BMC Bladelogic, vRealize, CA process Automation preferred
Knowledge of ITIL processes required
Highly proficient troubleshooting and support skills within virtual technologies essential
Strong analytical skills required
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with internal/external customers, vendors, management etc. in both formal and informal situations is essential
Being self-motivated and self-accountable for delivery and adherence to standards and delivery timelines is essential
