ASSOCIATE ANALYST/ ANALYST, PORTFOLIO INVESTMENTS AND FINANCIAL SERVICES, FOREIGN EXCHANGE POLICY DEPARTMENT
ROLE PURPOSE:
Formulate foreign exchange policy (FEP) to promote competitiveness of the economy while maintaining financial and monetary stability in the changing global and domestic environment.
Undertake surveillance on portfolio flows by highlighting critical insights from corporate and investor behavior.
Identify emerging risk or vulnerabilities on capital flows arising from evolving global and financial landscape to enable integrated policy response.
Assess FEP flexibility to drive financial market development and regional integration.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Assess the effectiveness of FEP rules and provide policy recommendations to meet the changing business operating environment, global developments and national agenda.
Conduct analysis and surveillance on portfolio flows by monitoring trends of institutional investors and financial firms. Keep abreast of latest developments in the global financial landscape such as digital currencies and assess interlinkages with FEP.
Undertake assessments and provide sound recommendations to Management on FEP applications related to portfolio investments abroad and novel financial instruments by balancing the impact to financial stability and facilitating business needs.
Undertake research and data-driven analysis to develop FEP policy recommendations and monitor its implementation to ensure effectiveness.
Conduct benchmarking to emulate best practices of other countries to ensure comprehensive FEP recommendations in driving financial market development.
Review FEP policy document to ensure it remains relevant and continues to meet the intended objectives.
Build and foster networking with internal and external stakeholders to solicit input or feedback through market intelligence for FEP formulation.
CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS:
Sound knowledge on the global & regional economic and financial landscape
Conversant with foreign exchange policy rules and policies
Ability to identify potential impact of national and global developments on prevailing policies
Ability to analyse statistics/information and solicit feedback from market players
Ability to balance the needs of BNM and external stakeholders
General knowledge on accounting, finance, economics and functions of the financial markets
REQUIREMENTS:
Academic qualifications: Degree or professional qualifications in Economics, Accounting, Banking or Finance
Experience: At least 2 years of working experience in related areas with a sound knowledge of foreign exchange, financial markets and macroeconomics.
