Key Responsibilities
Database Administration and Management
• Install, configure, and manage SQL database servers and related systems.
• Monitor database performance, implement necessary performance tuning, and ensure high levels of availability, security, and reliability.
• Manage backup, restore, and recovery processes to safeguard company data.
• Implement database replication and failover solutions for high availability.
Performance Optimization
• Optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and indexing to improve database performance.
• Conduct root cause analysis for database-related issues and troubleshoot to resolve problems quickly.
• Collaborate with developers on optimizing data access and design to ensure performance and reliability.
Security and Compliance
• Implement and maintain database security, including user roles, permissions, and access control.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS) where applicable.
• Regularly review and update security protocols, including audits of database access and activities.
Maintenance and Upgrades
• Plan and execute database upgrades, patches, and migrations.
• Schedule regular maintenance windows for tasks such as index rebuilding, data archiving, and cleanup.
• Document database configurations, procedures, and workflows for future reference and compliance purposes.
Data Integration and ETL
• Design, develop, and manage ETL processes to integrate data from various sources.
• Ensure data consistency, quality, and accuracy across systems.
• Work with data analysts and developers to support reporting and data analytics initiatives.
Support and Troubleshooting
• Provide 24/7 on-call support for critical database issues.
• Assist application developers in troubleshooting SQL issues and provide guidance on best practices.
• Collaborate with IT infrastructure teams to ensure database systems are backed by solid network and server foundations.
Documentation and Reporting
• Prepare and maintain documentation for database configurations, processes, and procedures.
• Create reports on database health, performance metrics, and capacity planning to support management decisions.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience:
• 3-5 years of experience as a DBA, SQL Database Administrator, or SQL Server Engineer.
• Proven experience with Microsoft SQL Server (additional experience with other RDBMS systems like Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL is a plus).
Certifications (preferred): Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, Microsoft Certified: SQL Server DBA.
Skills and Competencies
Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and Transact-SQL (T-SQL).
• Strong knowledge of database security, backup and recovery processes, and disaster recovery planning.
• Experience with database performance tuning and optimization (query optimization, index tuning).
• Familiarity with ETL tools and data integration processes.
• Understanding of cloud-based database solutions (e.g., Azure SQL, AWS RDS).
Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:
• Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to conduct root cause analysis on database issues.
• Ability to work with data to derive insights and make data-driven decisions.
Communication and Collaboration:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Team player who can work cross-functionally with developers, data engineers, and business analysts.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with automation scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for database tasks.
Knowledge of high-availability and disaster recovery (HA/DR) strategies.
Familiarity with database monitoring tools and dashboards (e.g., Redgate, SolarWinds, New Relic).
