Key Responsibilities: To support the smooth running of the Design & Technology department for all subjects including resistant materials, graphics, textiles and food preparation and nutrition. Preparing teaching resources, maintaining equipment and the teaching environment to a high standard, and supporting the teachers in lessons, all of which enhances the learning experience for students.
Duties & Responsibilities: Check, maintain and clean all specialist equipment and machinery e.g. Woodwork machinery, sewing machines, irons, heat press, fridges, freezers and cookers.Preparing materials and equipment for lessons e.g. cutting wood, cutting fabrics, emptying and refilling bobbins, making frame looms, measuring ingredients.To utilise all workshop machinery to support teachers in producing student work.To work alongside teachers in supporting the designing and making of products in lessons including leading demonstrations of key machines for pupils when required. Working one-to-one with select students to aid their progress within Technology. Maintain the storing and displaying of resources and student work. Clean and put away equipment after lessons.Check inventory of equipment in all work rooms and ensure everything is stored safely, hygienically and in the correct place.Replacements of consumables (soap, disinfectant, hand towels etc.) Launder tea towels and dish cloths.Check aprons and lab coats are clean and planning for them to be laundered on a regular basis.Keep all store/prep rooms/classrooms in a clean and tidy condition. Management and maintenance of stock rooms, keeping stock records, organize deliveries of equipment, materials and ingredients, planning for their general storage and undertaking general storage duties.Other Duties Carry out any minor accommodation 'handyman' tasks e.g. fitting shelves, mending equipment, changing light bulbs etc.Use own initiative to priorities and organize the workload as directed by the subject teacher and/or HOD. Maintain good working communication with the subject teachers and HOD. Attend all health and safety training courses as determined by the management of the school. To maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of school related matters. Liaise with site manager to ensure repairs and maintenance are carried out.Undertake the management of Keys for the department. Wear appropriate (PPE)personal, protective equipment for the environment e.g. Lab coats, aprons etc. Any other reasonable duties as directed by the Line Manager or members of the Leadership Team. Work Environment: The duties of the DT Technician will primarily be performed in school workshops, where the use of power tools and machinery is essential. The role may also involve lifting and moving resources and equipment, utilizing trolleys as needed for safety and efficiency.
Knowledge and Skills: Academic qualifications in a relevant subject area are advantageous.A minimum of two years of applied practical experience is required.Strong communication, organizational, and prioritization skills are essential.Demonstrated experience and practical competence in the safe and proper use of any specialist equipment for which post holder will be responsible.
