Responsibilities:Oversee the daily operations of critical infrastructure systems, includingpower supply, cooling (HVAC), fire suppression, electrical systems , andphysical security .
Ensure that the data center meets operational and uptime requirements, supporting the organization's IT infrastructure needs.
Supervise and coordinate preventive maintenance activities to ensure all systems are operating optimally, including periodic checks and system health monitoring.
Ensure the proper functioning of backup power systems (e.g.,UPS systems, generators ) and cooling systems, including fault detection, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
Manage and monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, airflow) to ensure optimal conditions for equipment.
Team Leadership and Coordination:Lead and supervise a team of facility engineers and technicians, assigning tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring high-quality performance.
Mentor, train, and develop junior engineers to improve team competency and skills in data center facility management.
Foster a collaborative work environment, ensuring seamless communication and coordination between teams, such as operations, IT, and external vendors.
Act as the primary point of contact for facility-related matters during on-call or emergency situations.
Incident Management and Problem Resolution:Take the lead in troubleshooting and resolving critical issues related to infrastructure failures, including power outages, cooling system failures, or equipment malfunctions.
Ensure timely incident resolution, minimizing downtime or service disruption for both internal and external customers.
Maintain an incident log, documenting all equipment failures, corrective actions taken, and resolutions, with a focus on continuous improvement and root cause analysis.
Participate in crisis management and recovery planning for major incidents that could impact operations.
Preventive and Corrective Maintenance:Develop, schedule, and oversee preventive maintenance programs for all facility systems to prevent breakdowns and minimize unplanned downtime.
Conduct regular inspections of electrical panels, cooling units, backup generators, fire suppression systems, and other critical infrastructure.
Perform corrective maintenance when failures occur and ensure minimal disruption to data center operations.
Ensure that all systems are operating within manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
Energy Efficiency and Cost Management:Monitor and optimize energy consumption and identify opportunities for energy savings, reducing operational costs while maintaining reliability and performance.
Implement energy-efficient solutions, including upgrades or modifications to HVAC, lighting, and power systems to ensure sustainability.
Track utility costs and ensure compliance with energy-related regulations and certifications, such as LEED or ISO 50001.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:Ensure that the data center complies with local, state, and federal regulations, includingOSHA ,fire safety ,environmental , anddata protectionstandards.
Ensure that the facility meets industry certifications and audits, such asISO 9001 ,ISO 27001 ,SOC 2 , andUptime InstituteTier standards.
Participate in regulatory audits and inspections, ensuring all compliance requirements are met.
Budgeting and Vendor Management:Develop and manage the facility's budget for operations, maintenance, and capital expenditures.
Oversee procurement and management of materials, parts, and equipment needed for facility operations.
Negotiate contracts with vendors and third-party service providers for facility services, including maintenance, HVAC, and electrical systems.
Ensure vendors meet service level agreements (SLAs) and performance standards.
Security and Safety Management:Oversee the implementation of security systems, includingCCTV ,access control systems , and alarm systems, to ensure the physical security of the data center.
Ensure the facility is prepared for emergencies, with detailed evacuation and incident response plans in place for all employees.
Maintain a safe working environment for all staff, implementing safety programs and ensuring compliance with OSHA and other safety regulations.
Capacity Planning and Infrastructure Design:Work with the IT and operations teams to plan and design infrastructure upgrades, expansions, or modifications to meet future data center demands.
Lead capacity planning for power, cooling, and space requirements, ensuring the data center infrastructure can support growing IT workloads and services.
Ensure scalability and reliability of systems during physical expansion, including server racking, cabling, and layout changes.
Documentation and Reporting:Ensure proper documentation of facility operations, including maintenance logs, incident reports, system configurations, and operational manuals.
Prepare and present reports on facility performance, energy usage, and maintenance activities for senior management.
Maintain an asset management system to track the lifecycle of critical infrastructure equipment, including warranties, replacements, and upgrades.
Continuous Improvement and Technology Upgrades:Stay current with the latest developments in data center technology, infrastructure, and industry best practices.
Research, propose, and implement technology upgrades or process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce downtime.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the facility, including system upgrades, automation, and sustainability programs.
Requirements:Minimum at least possess a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or relevant field.
At least 5 years of working experience in the Data Centre industry or 10 years of working experience in related field.
Experience involved in preventive, predictive maintenance planning, scheduling, execution and manning.
Able to contribute effective solutions to solve issues.
Positive and aggressive working attitude, able to think critically, a good team player and able to work independently.
Proficiency in English language is a must - spoken, written, and reading.
Proficiency in MS Office is a must.
Any other engineering-related software proficiency will be an added advantage.
