Job DescriptionAs a Legal Counsel, you provide legal support to drive the regional commercial strategy with a focus on the digital and physical store portfolio of H&M Group across Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
Key responsibilities
Be a competent legal advisor supporting H&M's digital and physical store expansion in the region. Proactively advise on legal issues/disputes related to expansion and/or consolidation and manage responses in relation to contentious matters.
Review, draft and negotiate lease/tenancy agreements for H&M stores including legal documents related to construction and facilities from a pro-business perspective with minimal risk exposure to H&M. Assist in research and analysis on legal issues with cross-border elements in business/consumer laws and other laws relevant to the industry. Provide contractual and regulatory legal advice on marketplace and partnership opportunities for online projects.
Be a reliable business partner for the HR team, providing legal and regulatory guidance on employment matters and labor laws in the region.
Collaborate with internal teams and external counsel on advice or investigations relating to a variety of regulatory queries. Collaborate with internal stakeholders and Head of Legal & PA to provide overall legal support for projects, disputes, and strategic initiatives. Support the data privacy team with regulatory guidance.
Manage relationships with external counsel and oversee correspondence with authorities when required.
QualificationsTo be successful in the role as a Legal Counsel, you have demonstrated the ability to manage complex legal issues and drive strategic initiatives. You grasp key drivers of the business and have the ability to navigate and manage diverse legal landscapes effectively with strong knowledge of corporate and real estate law in the region. Excellent English language skills and the confidence to communicate well in a multi-cultural and multi-level environment.
What you need to succeed:
4 to 6 years of law firm/in-house legal experience with a focus on commercial law, experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment – ideally consumer business with digital and/or leasing experience.
Called to the Bar in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, or other relevant common law jurisdiction.
Self-starter who can work with minimum guidance and demonstrate a pro-active, positive attitude to their work.
Strong project management skills, including the ability to prioritize effectively and handle multiple deadlines.
Additional InformationThis is a full-time position within the Region East Asia Legal Team based in Singapore, reporting to the Regional Head of Legal & Public Affairs.
