Position Summary
IREX is currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced technical trainer and practitioner to design and deliver remote training courses for media outlets, specifically focusing on TV/video technical equipment use.
Training will be targeted towards media partner outlets supported under IREX's Supporting Independent Media in Syria III (SIMS-III).
The selected candidate will provide guidance and advice to partners' technical crews on the installation, maintenance, and operation of production equipment, some of which may have been recently procured.
The trainer's main responsibilities will include advising on equipment setup for studio-based visual radio and TV production, offering maintenance tips for studio equipment and location-based video and audio equipment, providing assistance with production software setup and usage, and offering guidance on visual radio and TV layout.
Additionally, the trainer will focus on shooting and editing best practices including camera operation, composition and framing, lighting, sound recording, storytelling and shot sequencing, video & audio editing software and techniques both on location and in studio-based programming.
Throughout the training courses, practical exercises, demonstrations, and case studies may need to be included to reinforce the concepts and allow participants to apply their newly acquired skills.
The trainer may also be asked to advise on the production of new TV output coming on stream and explain how online analytics can be used to inform video program production.
IREX is seeking a trainer with substantial experience in delivering technical and equipment training, both face-to-face and remotely.
As part of our ongoing commitment to professional development, the selected candidate will have the chance to work with various program partners and contribute to the growth and success of Syrian media outlets.
Duties And Responsibilities
Provide advice on how to install the equipment, particularly for studio-based visual radio production.
Provide advice on how to maintain studio equipment (including lights and visual radio cameras) and how to protect video and audio equipment used on location to maximize its lifespan.
Provide advice on set-up and use of production software on the laptops provided as part of the procurement.
Provide advice on visual radio studio layout.
Provide advice on production of short and long-form TV programming on location and in the studio.
Provide advice on how online analytics can inform TV production especially for YouTube.
Provide advice on how AI can be utilized to improve TV programming efficiency.
Provide advice on general operation of the equipment as raised in ad hoc questions by the technical crew.
Provide advice on shooting and editing best practices including on, but not limited to, camera operation, composition and framing, lighting, sound recording, storytelling and shot sequencing, video & audio editing software and techniques.
Deliver virtual training to online, radio, or television outlets.
Provide IREX and beneficiary media outlets with recommendations for follow-up training and technical upgrades.
Produce comprehensive, written, English-language reports, detailing activities undertaken within each training assignment, actions taken by beneficiary outlets as a result of training activities, recommendations for future training, and other information as requested by IREX.
Perform other responsibilities as requested.
Skills And Experience
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in videography, storytelling, and video editing required.
Proficiency in audio and video editing software required.
Studio and location directing experience essential.
Experience of utilizing AI in TV production required.
Experience of utilizing online analytics to inform TV programming desired.
Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering remote training on equipment installation and use (7+ years' experience is strongly desired).
Candidates who have their own video studio will be preferred.
Experience working in political transition and conflict/post-conflict environments is preferred.
Experience working in the MENA (Middle East/North Africa) geographic region is preferred.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Excellent English-language writing skills for training assignment reports are required.
Strong interpersonal skills, particularly in multi-cultural environments.
Ability to work under pressure.

Renewal
IREX reserves the right, based on availability of funding and vendor performance, to enter into subsequent contractual agreements with the winning vendor for a period of up to three years without issuing a new RFP.
