Responsibilities:
Accountable for the clinical teaching and supervision of nursing students in clinical settings.
Liaise with Nursing Lecturers and Unit Managers on matters related to student performance.
Conduct clinical evaluations of students' nursing skills.
Maintain records of students' clinical performance.
A) Orientation
Orient all new students to the clinical setting.
Introduce new students to the Nurse Manager and staff nurses in the clinical area.
Create a conducive learning environment in the clinical area to maximize student benefit from clinical postings.
Conduct clinical teaching through bedside instruction and nursing rounds.
Demonstrate clinical and communication skills for students to emulate.
Uphold professionalism by always ensuring ethical practice.
B) Supervision
Supervise students' clinical performance.
Provide immediate feedback at the end of procedures.
Guide students in assessing patients' nursing problems, planning care, and assisting in implementing and evaluating care.
C) Assessment
Assess and document students' clinical performance.
Serve as a practical examiner for Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE).
Record clinical procedure performance in the logbook.
D) Administrative Functions
Plan students' weekly duty rosters and rotate postings to various clinical areas for uniform exposure.
Assign daily tasks to students according to semester objectives provided by the college.
Obtain feedback from Nurse Managers or senior staff nurses before documenting the student's clinical report.
Submit students' clinical reports to the Coordinator of Clinical Placement.
Report to the Coordinator of Clinical Placement on matters related to student welfare or conduct during clinical postings.
Assist in preparing letters to hospitals, JKNS, and KKM.
E) Counselling and Motivation
Counsel and motivate students to improve their academic, and clinical performance and professional conduct.
Be accessible to students needing guidance and emotional support.
F) Professional Development
Attend seminars and workshops to identify creative ways to enhance clinical training methodologies.
Stay updated on current trends in healthcare through continuous professional development.
Take responsibility for personal and professional development.
Requirements:
Possess a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing, as recognized by the Malaysian Nursing Board.
Must be a Registered Nurse.
Possess a valid/current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC).
Post-basic qualifications are an advantage.
Has a minimum of five (5) years of clinical working experience.
At least two (2) years of teaching experience is preferred.
