GI-TOC comprises a network of more than 660 independent global and regional experts working on human rights, democracy, governance, and development issues where organized crime has become increasingly pertinent. GI-TOC provides a platform to promote greater debate and innovative approaches as the building blocks to an inclusive global strategy against organized crime. GI-TOC commissions and shares research globally; curates a robust resource library of 2,000 reports and tools specific to organized crime; and uses its convening power to unite both the private and public sectors against organized crime.Job SummaryThe Observatory for Illicit Economies for the Asia-Pacific is looking for a Field Coordinator to support a new GI-TOC project in South East Asia. Working with governments and partners in the region, the GI-TOC will explore the phenomenon of organized criminality in four South East Asian countries with a view to creating networks and interventions in support of multistakeholder responses to such challenges.The Field Coordinator will be based in Malaysia and report to the Head of Programme. The Field Coordinator will be responsible for identifying key individuals and organizations within Malaysia relevant to the project, developing relationships with government departments, the judiciary, law enforcement and civil society stakeholders, and assisting with the delivery of multiple stakeholder engagement activities in country. Additional tasks may be assigned at the discretion of the Head of Programme.Main responsibilities and specific tasksStakeholder Mapping & Relationship Building:Identify possible partners, establish and foster trusted relationships with key stakeholders, namely national policymakers, members of the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and civil society organizations. Stay up to date with activities of key stakeholders to help identify potential synergies and areas of cooperation.Logistical Support:Assist in the implementation of the project's stakeholder engagement activities, by identifying invitees, speakers and venues, while providing advice on the requirements of different stakeholder groups to ensure the project is relevant to their needs.Monitoring and Intelligence:Monitor relevant news outlets and call upon personal networks for instances of organized crime, including foreign-linked criminality, and send regular updates and analysis to the project team.Requisite skills and experienceThe successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following experience and skills:At least three years of work experience in a related role, e.g. working for a civil society organization, or in government institutions or law enforcement sector, dealing with a wide array of stakeholders. (R)Strong networking and communication skills, and a high level of cultural sensitivity, to be able to navigate a diverse range of settings. (R)Proficient in English and Malay languages. (R)Strong commitment to confidentiality in relation to handling sensitive data. (R)Highly organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently under limited guidance. (R)University degree in a relevant field, e.g. criminology, sociology, journalism, intelligence, security, international relations etc. (D)Strong network of contacts from national policymakers, members of the judiciary, law enforcement agencies and civil society organizations.
